Square Leaf Study by Meredith Woolnough
Did you ever think that you could create light and delicate art objects using the embroidery feature and wash away stabilizer on your domestic BERNINA? Australian artist Meredith Woolnough creates startlingly beautiful pieces inspired primarily by underwater corals and other life forms. You will never look at machine embroidery in the same way.
Meredith is very inspired by nature, especially the plants she finds while diving in the ocean. After drawing out the design on water washable stabilizer, it is put in a hoop and free-motion quilted. The completed design is then placed in water to remove the stabilizer.

Cherrywood Fabrics, based in Brainerd, Minn, created The Wicked Cherrywood Challenge 2014. Some of these quilts were exhibited at Quilters Take Manhattan 2014 in September.
The challenge was to create a 20" x 20" quilt using Cherrywood fabrics and specific "wicked greens" and black. Embellishments could also be used.
Some artists were influenced by the Broadway musical, Wicked, some by the book of the Wizard of Oz, and some were based on personal interpretations of the word "wicked."
The Wicked Challenge Exhibit will be displayed at The Gershwin Theater (home of WICKED™) on Broadway in New York City! The quilts will hang from September 18 thru November 3, 2014. This will be in conjunction with the 11th Anniversary Celebration of WICKED™ on October 30th.
