Motion is the latest exhibit at the National Quilt Museum in Paducah.  It was created by the Contemporary QuiltArt Association who will be celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2016.  Their interpretation of Motion is a presentation of quilts by 33 of their members.

From the museum:

Motion is a key concept in design. By combining elements such as line, shape, and texture that make the eye move over the work, an artist can convey motion. Movement can be suggested visually through repetition, directional lines, placement of objects, diagonal lines, and gestural lines. A symbolic representation of movement can create an exciting abstract composition.

More information about Motion from the Contemporary QuiltArt Association, may be found here.

The exhibit runs from November 21, 2014 - February 23, 2015.

"Go Tell It at the Quilt Show!" is a Quilt Alliance project designed to capture the stories of quilts where quiltmakers gather.  The interviews are created with  "one quilt, one person,  one video camera, and three minutes of time." Flora Joy was interviewed during the 2014 International Quilt Festival in Houston about her quilt, Frame of Mind.

The Quilt Alliance filmed over 100 stories in Houston this year, keep an eye out for more.

While we were in Houston, we sat down some of our guests and asked them ten quick questions.  We told them to be as silly or as serious as they wanted to be.  First up, Philippa Naylor.

Star Members can watch Philippa in Episode 606: Showstopping Trapunto.

There's a new exhibit at the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles--

Three Bay Area Modern Quilt Guilds--East Bay Modern, Bay Area Modern and South Bay Area Modern--present a juried exhibition of quilts made by guild members who were inspired by Amish quilt makers.

Juror and San Francisco artist Joe Cunningham has chosen almost forty quilts displayed in two exhibitions that best represent a 21st century interpretation of late 19th and early 20th century Amish quilt-making traditions. The Modern Muse exhibitions are part of the museum’s FiberSpace program, an exhibition platform where the museum provides gallery space, while community members provide the art work and resources to mount a professional exhibition.

The special exhibit titled "Celebrating California's State Parks" consists of 57 quilts made by 57 quilters to celebrate and showcase the diversity and beauty of the 278 various state park units in the state.

The quilt auction for the Inspired By quilts, which benefits the Quilt Alliance, has begun on Ebay.  Now is your chance to grab a great quilt and help a great cause.

The Quilt Alliance's annual small quilt auction began Monday, November 10 on eBay. This year's theme, "Inspired By" attracted 95 entries from both amateur and professional quilters with techniques ranging from hand piecing and applique to digital transfer and painted surface, from hand quilting to longarm quilting. The 16" x 16" wall quilts were made and donated by artists from all over the U.S. and around the world. The auction is one of the Alliance’s biggest fundraisers and will be conducted on eBay in three groups of around 30 quilts each. The bidding will begin at $60 for all quilts and it's a great way to help the Alliance fulfill it's mission while getting some holiday shopping done!
