Here's another beauty from the Lancaster AQS show. It is Purple Grace from Karen Kielmeyer (TQS member kkiel). This quilt also won First place in Machine Embroidery at the Machine Quilters Showcase in Overland Park, KS.
Karen had a problem with her quilt, but in true quilter fashion, she solved it and made something beautiful. Here's what she had to say.
Originally I had sewn a hot pink silk piping between the center white and the outer purple border....when I blocked the thing the pink bleed into the white.....TOTALLY Ruined!!! ( I have attached a photo) Frustrated, I stared at it for a few days and finally decided I couldn't make it worse. I cut out the damaged parts and then finished the cut edges with binding. I made a pattern from the repaired pieces and copied the design on anther piece of silk, which I quilted, cut out and attached to the back of each separate piece. It took a couple of weeks to repair, and of course I had a deadline.....nothing ever goes wrong when you have plenty of time....but the repair made the quilt unique!
