I was intrigued by the block that looks like a face. It just looked like a pieced block until I took the picture. It's by Tammie Bowser. Her quilt site is http://www.mosaicquilt.com/

Here is another of the quilts put together by Margaret Miller of blocks from famous quilters. I'll put up one more later today. I do need to remind you that these pictures were NOT the work of Gregory Case.
Alex received blocks from many of the people she had the honor of working with. Margaret Miller put them together and several wonderful keepsakes were created. Here is an example of one of the quilts.
Here are some of the names I could make out:
Jackie Robinson, Debbie Caffrey, Margaret Miller, Liza Prior Lucy, Kate Tegtmeier, Linda Long, Judy Severson, Barbara Garrett, Sandy Bonsib, Faye Labanaris, Carol Armstrong Debi Anderson, Jane Quinn, Kaye Wood, Clare O'Donohue, Dierdra McElroy, Robyn Pandolph, Becky Goldsmith, Lois Embree Arnold, Sharon Rexroad Ericson, Paula Reid, Nancy Eha, Sherry Reis, Joanie San Chirico & Billie Lauder
Alex is leaving tomorrow. I have decided to refold her quilts that are in the armoire in our bedroom. I'll bet I could get some pictures for you. By the way, you should never store your quilts in an armoire or any furniture where the cloth is touching the wood. These quilts get moved a lot, but it is still not an excuse.
Alex's quilts are most often made for books. She has spent her quilting life trying to teach the basics and bring new quilters into the fold. I'll try to identify the books that go with the quilts, but this is just for fun.
Keep your eyes open this week, as I will introduce some each day.
PS--Don't tell Alex. Let's just keep this between us. --Capt'n John
One of the biggest deals in livermore is the Rodeo - in fact, is the world's fastest Rodeo and this year it is 70 years old. When I was a little girl, on Saturday morning of rodeo weekend, we would head down town to be in the kiddies parade. We would dress as native Americans using a fringed, belted pillow case as our outfit, decorated with southwestern designs drawn in crayons. Now a days, the parade has elevated to another level. This morning John and I walked down town and snapped some images for you to enjoy - life in a small town USA. Does your town enjoy any annual celebrations?
Up, up and away - Once again it is time to pack my bags! On behalf of Bernina USA, I will be at the following locations over this next week - if you are in the area, PLEASE sign up today and don't forget to wear your TQS badge and remember, the secret code is- "It's a New Day, Everyday!"
June 17th - Bernina of Oklahoma City
June 19th - Quilt Quarters in Indianapolis
June 23th - Viking Sewing Center - Ann Arbor
Oh yes it is - From 8th grade to college and perhaps even more than that - people are walking for the paper! Tonight my daughter is presenting her 8th graders with their certificates and at the local high school it is "FREEDOM" (so they think)! For each of my kids, they got a quilt for their high school accomplishments - here is a snap shot of Joey's quilt- note Sparrow has taken claim of it - I think nine years later, Joey is more concerned with wedding festivites - as he should be! Do you have any graduates in your family? Let's ring the bells to celebrate! Are there any quilts made for them?
These past six days have gone by like wildfire - Now we are cleaning up the place and heading back to our "day jobs" - as for myself, I am beside myself that the lions share of the Chuppah is completed. Here is a portion of the piece - As you can see it is very sheer (as per request) and then on all four sides scripture from Song of Solomon is embroidered in Hebrew. "I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine". This Friday Wendy will help me pull it all together - What would we do without friends?!
For the past six years I have had the delicious opportunity to head to the CA foothills with my buddies Joen Wolfrom (show 103) and Darra Williamson. What started as a three-night gig has grown to six! Personally, I thought it was five nights this year, but Joen and Darra showed up on my doorstep one day early - so off we went (someone needs a keeper). Many plans and ideas have incubated, hatched, and grown at The Summit - Industry executives should quake in their boots during this timeframe -LOL. In addition, we sew our hearts and brains out. This year we took a field trip to Columbia State Park, so Darra could find the perfect repro fabric for a Churn Dash quilt at Lindy's Store, Fancy Dry Goods (as seen on the road trip). We found the perfect fabric then headed to Hammond's (that is where I got the famous green shoes) - and we all purchased another pair - two black and one purple. Of course the trip would not be complete without stopping at Bunny Rose and Co in Groveland (also seen on the road trip). Joen is working on a quilt for her pattern company, JWD Publishing and as for myself - the Chuppah is taking serious form. I'll give you a sneak peek tomorrow. We are having FUN FUN FUN at the Summit!
Keep in mind that quilts have a mind of their own - listen to your quilt when determining the quilting design. For indepth information visit my classroom and start with the bottom lesson and work your way to the top. We are currently working on feathered wreaths. BTW: I ended up advising Wendy to use the half wreath you see in this picture -
