Currently at the San Jose Museum of Quilt and Textiles is a wonderful exhibit by Linda Toeniskoetter, Out of Chaos.  Linda says, "The creation myths of many ethnic groups and religions describe the world created from undifferentiated stuff, from chaos.  It is this notion of building something organized and beautiful from a jumble that appeals to me when I think about quilting."

Out of Chaos showcases her novel approach to design and variation on traditional pieced blocks. These quirky geometric combinations of pattern create lively movement throughout the quilts, and the uneven edges are unusual, almost a bit unsettling. The quilts reflect a personal story of survival and show the power of artistic expression, innovation, and healing that results while creating a body of work. Behind the jewel-toned and dynamic chaos is a rich and intimate outpouring of unique work – “the building of a quilt lets me experience this process of creating balance as an example for the rest of my life,” she says. Toeniskoetter’s work has been shown nationally.

The exhibit runs through October 27, 2013.

Although she's been making art all her life, LA native Sheila Frampton Cooper is relatively new to quilting. That hasn't stopped her from making a splash, as evidenced by the award-winning quilts she shares in this slideshow.

Descriptions and stories behind these quilts can be found on her website, www.zoombaby.com.

And if you want to learn how she does it, Sheila demonstrates her clever technique for piecing curves without pins and offers loads of tips and suggestions for machine quilting, including how to tackle multiple thread changes in Episode 1306: No-Pin Curves and Quilting "Modern."

Remember when you told you about the Mug Rug Exchange on the TQS Forum? If you don't remember, see below.

A Mug Rug is a mini-quilt that can act as a coaster or small placemat. It should be big enough to hold your beverage and maybe a small cookie (or a big cookie...)

Well, people have been posting photos like crazy, over 140 so far.  Here is just a sample of the mug rugs that have been exchanged among TQS members.

If you are interested in exchanging a Mug Rug, post on the Mug Rug Exchange - Do it yourself style! Forum Link and let it be known.  You'll also find more information there about how to proceed.  When someone responds, privately exchange your snail mail address, and then when it is completed, ship off your completed Mug Rug - The best part is the surprise when your Mug Rug arrives in the mail.

It's a great way to complete a small project and make a friend at the same time.

TQS would like to see what our members are making. When you receive your Mug Rug, please post a picture in the Mug Rugs Show & Tell area provided just for that purpose. We know it will be spectacular.
