Japanese Quilts - Modern Day was a special exhibit at PIQF 2013, curated by Yoshiko Katagiri, here is what she had to say about the exhibit,
"An amazing quilt show was held in Japan in 1976 - “Abstract Art in American Quilts.” The same exhibit was shown in New York in 1971. Since then, quilt makers and quilt fans in Japan have been increasing in number year after year. They all have the love of fabric in common. Yoshiko will show you Japanese quilts “of this moment” through this exhibition. I hope you will be happy to see them."
