In 2001, Donna Sue Groves had a vision. She wished to honor her mother, Maxine, and her Appalachian heritage by having a painted quilt hung on her barn. This vision grew to a trail of 20 quilt barns in Adams County, Ohio.

Today barn quilts and trails have sprung up all across North America and on May 13-14, 2011, the barn quilt movement will be celebrating it's 10th Anniversary in Adams, CO. Donna Sue will be hosting a party, so save the date!

Strange coincidence that I just viewed this today 5/10/19 after attending the Red River Valley Quilt Guilds first quilt show at which there was a man selling "barn quilts" as they are attempting to start a barn trail here in northeast TX. Know there are many well established through the US, so think this is a great plan.

There are so many new trails since then! Donna Sue is always supportive of efforts across the nation to help, offer advice and just listen. Ours is in Washington County, OR. We just installed our 50th block.
