The Black Sea town of Sile sits at the northernmost tip of Istanbul.  There has been a village located here as far back as 700 BC.  Sile has long been known for it beaches, fishing, and a lighthouse that dates back to the Ottoman times.

We also found a cottage industry of textile production that will astound you.

We would like to thank Mr. Emre Toprakci from the Sile Community Center for providing the video portion of this presentation.

Many of the old weaving traditions are being preserved today.  See how the fiber is prepared and how the Sile Community Center is fostering this ancient weaving tradition.
