Nancy's Glorious Flower Basket - Large flower basket filled with roses, irises, morning glories, ivy & lilies laying on a handdyed background set in an oval, framed with shaded brown bias with a light paisley foreground
Shoo, 'Fly - I made this one just for fun, using indigo fabrics from South Africa and reproduction shirting fabrics collected here. I do love playing with 3-D designs on flat surfaces. I tea-dyed some of the shirting fabrics to use in the asymmetric blocks, to help foster the 3-D illusion.
Love Letters - This is a wedding gift for a close friend. Used fabric from "Finger Paints" line in Sapphire Blue with green. It is heavily quilted, taking me 55 hours on the longarm. I think the traditional pattern and the heavy quilting makes it look "old."
Anniversary Quilt - A gift for our parents celebrating their 35th wedding Anniversary. The quilt is composed of images from their life together; pieces of music from wedding, shared interests in birds and music, the colors of Italy and France. Three eggs in the nest to represent three girls. There are 35 buttons, one for every year together. Also included are family funny phrases that have been said over the years. Thread painting on the nest and eggs.
The Best There Is- Anniversary Quilt - This quilt was made for my husband for our 25 Anniversary. We entered it into the Browning Outdoor company "Show us your Buckmark" contest and it won. They are using it in their advertising this fall. Browning gave us a very nice Rifle for the award...which I promptly handed over to my husband!
Celebration! 50th Anniversary - My original design, signature quilt of membership of River Road Presbyterian Church, Richmond VA, in celebration of 50 years.
Boy's Best Friend - Using Cynthia England's picture piecing method, I created this quilt from pictures of Stephen and his dog, Barkley. It was his graduation present.
Snow Globe Kaleidoscope - This Kaleidoscope quilt is frosty blue. Blue and white fabrics are pieced together then covered with a shiny white organza with silvery glitter on it. The result is a frosty looking snowy wall hanging.
like an egyptian - bought paula's book and went to town. some of these fabrics i've been holding on to for over 20 years patiently waiting for paula to inspire me.
An Egyptian Perspective #1 - I did this quilt using the snippets method for the oblisk and the pyramid. I had someone draw the picture for me the way i described it, but i didn't put it together quite the same way.
Fibonacci Windows - A wall hanging based on Distorted Cathedral Window as demonstrated in Lynne Edwards book combined with Fibonnacci's formula, inspired by the colours seen in a watercolour of Iris's. Textured inserts inside the "windows".
Heceta Lighthouse - Heceta Lighthouse is located on the Oregon coast. This is a raw-edge applique postcard. I began with a digital photograph and created a pattern on my computer by drawing the features I wanted to include. Embellishments include free-motion stitching to create the details of the hillside rocks and plants, and satin stitching for the waves and the details of the lighthouse and out buildings. For the fence I used a decorative machine stitch. I created the postcard back by printing on fabric for the information about the postcard front, and stitching the lines for addressing and the postage stamp. Binding is a single layer.
Cape Hatteras Lighthouse - I made this wall hanging for my friend and cousin in Oklahoma. One of her favorite memories is visiting the lighthouse when her family vacationed in North Carolina in the 60’s. I used photographs to design the lighthouse and dyed the fabric for the sky and grass.
Lighthouse - My guild challenges us to make a quilt each year. Our show theme was Lighthouses, so we were challenged to make a lighthouse and use gold lame fabric. I saw a lighthouse stained glass piece in the window of a store, so I copied it in fabric. I had never done stained-glass applique before. It was a lot of fun.
