Remembering Anastacia
Name of Maker: Mary Valaika
Remembering Anastacia - This is a large full sized 100% wool quilt top, made from wool garments purchased at the Goodwill stores. It has 2 wool battings in it, a flannel backing and 3/4 inch flannel binding. It is tied with 6 strands of DMC embroidery floss. Named it for my Irish grandmother Anastacia, who made quilts from my grandfather's wool business suits. Strip pieced, 2.5 inch strips.

Iris Basket - Whole cloth quilt on Radiance fabric (cotton-silk blend). Done on a Bernina 440 without the use of stitch regular or walking foot. 20'x20". My first real attempt at trapunto or doing a whole cloth quilt.

The Great Outdoors - I had so much fun with the making of this quilt for my son, Brian, for his 45th birthday. I used panels, which I cut apart and framed in black; then put my 2 1/2 inch squares together and surrounded each framed panel. Then I appliqued "camping" themes all over.
The Man Quilt

The Man Quilt - A quilt commissioned by a friend for her friend's 60th birthday. It was a challenge to design a quilt for a man who collects teddy bears. The quilt had to be appropriately masculine but have bears on it, plus a place for attendees at his birthday party to sign the quilt. The teddy bears are on the back of the quilt. Size is approximate.
