Rock Hard
Name of Maker: Valerie Wilson
Rock Hard - This piece was created for the show Geophysical held in Calgary in 2010. I saw this photo of a piece of granite from the Smithsonian Museum and was instantly smitten. It looked like a wonderful abstract painting with the veins of gold running through it and the intense earth colours. I was able to use this photo with the permission of the photographer Thad Zajdowicz of Washington, DC.
Purse
Name of Maker: Valerie Wilson
Purse - This puse was made out of a wool men's jacket and the lining was made from a silk scarf, from the thrift store.
The Ladies
Name of Maker: Valerie Wilson
The Ladies - This piece is unique in that it evolved from a black and white photo of a garden party, taken probably in the 1920’s. What fascinated me most was all the hats worn by the women, so they became the focus of the design. Juried in to the exhibit "Edging Forward" held at Quilt Canada 2008.
Blowing in the Wind
Name of Maker: Valerie Wilson
Blowing in the Wind - This piece focuses on the weed that everyone hates - the lowly dandelion. This quilt showcases the natural beauty of the seed heads and reminds us of when we were children, blowing on the dandelion heads to see the seeds float away on the breeze.
Tropical Colour
Name of Maker: Valerie Wilson
Tropical Colour - This quilt was made for a quilt challenge at a local shop. The batiks reminded me of the wonderful, bright plumage of macaws. We were to use the two fabrics provided (bright, multicoloured batiks), and could only add two other fabrics. This quilt is based on a photo used with the premission of Cathy Kaplan, Pittsburgh, PA

Thursday's Garden
Name of Maker: Marva
Thursday's Garden - Thursday is the cat on the top. This was one of my modifications to the pattern. Although a kit was the starting point, I made many fabric substitutions.
Name of Maker: Betty Ann Seeman
"An Unaffected Grace" - Grace began with a pencil sketch study of flowing lines. I usually find a name for a my quilts during the creation process, not so with this quilt. When It was finished I looked up NATURAL in the thesaurus. "An Unaffected Grace" was a phrase suggested. My Grandmother, a quilt maker, was named Grace. The thought of Grandma's name on my quilt made me smile. The low tech pencil sketch was scanned into high tech computer where I was able to decide on value placement before cutting one bit of fabric. The quilt is also embellished with original designed bead trim.

My Secret Garden - Jacket made with a sweatshirt appliqued with floral and landscape fabrics. Like painting, fabric pieces were placed, then machine appliqued and quilted.
Henny Peony
Name of Maker: juditharizona
Henny Peony - I took a photo of a chicken at the county fair, then used the Ruth McDowell method of drafting and piecing to create the quilt top. I decided it was too plain, so I added the bright english-paper-pieced flowers.
Stellar Bouquet
Name of Maker: juditharizona
Stellar Bouquet - Three friends and I exchanged a 1/2 yard peice of a favorite fabric. We each had to use at least half of each piece of fabric in our quilt. I hadn't made a Mariners compass and wanted to. So I looked at books, drafted my own, then created them using paper piecing. I love flowers so I arranged them as a bouquet.
Freedom

Freedom - The Pacific Rim web site suggested that their Carousel pattern be modified to be a horse. After removing the carousel equipment, my horse is free in the meadow.
Fire and Ice

Fire and Ice - When the challenge was "cold and hot" I decided to use orange fabric and snowflake print for the yin and yang cats.
