Toot-toot - My friend and I designed this quilt together. We each made one, differing in the fabrics we chose for the train cars, and the applique stitches we used. We appliqued the trains on the cloud fabric, added tracks and gravel, and turned our grandsons loose on it. They run their trains around the tracks, and then snuggle up and nap on them.

O Holy Night - This is a wall hanging of a nativity scene.

23rd Psalm - embroidered words of the 23rd Psalm, surrounded by blocks with lambs embroidered on them. Made for my friend in a nursing home. This is my second quilt, and the first one designed, executed and finished with no help. The fabric for the back, and surrounding the embroidered lambs was donated by my friend, Mary. There are many errors, but my friend, who taught Sunday school for years and called her students her "lambs" (Her last name is Woolley), enjoys it, and can run her fingers over the embroidery and recited the 23rd Psalm, in spite of the fact she is almost blind and her memory is failing badly.

Love is ..... - Design is inspired by several norwegian designers: Bente Vold Klausen, Solfrid Meek Al-kasim and Hanne Aspelin Firman. Original it was supposed to be a wedding gift, there for the name "love is ..." In the quilting there are hidden many messager like: Love is like red roses Love is like music Love is like a red tread through our life Love is like flowers and bees Love is like a home Love is ........ and so on.

The Bird Lady - The bird fabrics were leftovers from sets of scrubs made for my daughters vetrinary assistant job. Some are fussy cut, some are not. This is my first quilt, and my friend Mary Behnke helped me design it, and gave me instructions for the construction of the quilt top.

A quilt for ME - Marie Castle Wing uses fusing, I used a glue stick. Then straight stitched around the squares but left raw edge out so it would frey. Quilt not bound, but finished with a satin stitch and tassles from not cutting the thread off. Was very fast and easy. 1st quilt for ME!!! yay Maries work found in Quilters Newsletter Magazine Sept. 2006 No. 385, pg 43.

Colorado Wildflowers - Each of the flower blocks are hand-drawn, hand appliqued and hand-embroidered (crazy quilt technique). The rest of the blocks are 9 patches used to create a diamond-shaped design over the entire quilt. This is a give-away quilt that was made by the volunteers of Firehouse Quilts, a nonprofit organization based in Highlands Ranch CO. Remembering Doc (Holliday) - A picture of my nephew Rob, dressed in old west garb spurred the beginning of this quilted wall hanging. Rob sent me a digital photo and it was used to create the fabric portrait during an online class taken from Marilyn Belford at Quilt University. Peaceful Days - Made this for my in-laws to replace the ones lost when their house was destroyed by lightening. I named it "Peaceful Days" as sort of a prayer.

Snuggle Up! - I made this for my brother, Ron, and his wife. Learned a lesson about how much fabric to buy for log cabin quilts!

Precious Links - Made this for my only sister.

Starry Night - I made this quilt during a class at my local quilt shop, The Good Home Quilt Company. The pattern in the book, Star Crossing by Buggy Barn, was called My Three Stars, but I changed it to Starry Night because of the colors that I chose for the quilt. The back is made up of fabrics printed with tiny white stars and leftover blocks from the front. The batting is all cotton and machine quilted on my sewing machine.

Ballerinas - This quilt was made for Leah for her 6th birthday on January 11th. It was made from a kit that I purchased from Keepsake Quilting. It is all cotton except for the satin bows on the ballerina shoes. This is the last of what I call the Grandchildren Quilts. In mid January 2006 I decided to make a quilt for each grandchild to be presented on their birthday.

Pastel Parfait - I made this quilt for my granddaughter, Jennier, for her 13th birthday on January 2. It is all cotton: top, batting and backing. The backing is the same fabric as the side triangles. I used various quilting designs while learning to machine quilt on my Janome sewing machine.

BALTIMORE APPLIQUE - I used Eleanor Burns' Applique in a Day pattern which was featured as a series in one of the magazines (?). I used needle-turned instead of her facing technique.

LIBERTY GARDEN
