13 Owls - Appliqued owl with continuous prairie point strips on body surrounded by log cabin & fussy cut owl squares. Pattern found in fabric store & fabric found at Mary Jo's in Gastonia, NC.
Only Dead Fish - Purchased in Council Bluffs, Iowa during my "retirement" trip. Fit my attitude (and astrological sign - Pisces) during my last weeks of work.
Becoming a out door woman - I go to BOW (Becoming a Outdoor Wamon) in Alabama every year. They have a action every year to raise money for women to attend that can't afford to pay. I made this quilt so other women can learn to enjoy our great outdoors. It is our day, Sun rise, walking through the trees, our classes, and all the birds flying around.
Luna - I had this quilt on the design wall for over 6 months playing with the colors and learning more about contrast. The idea came from an advertisement for a quilt show. I was challenged also with the piecing of the circles. Embroidery was added when I decided it would make a great gift for my nieces graduation.
Squared - Red, Black and white school colors used in this quilt - backing is flannel and pieced in a zig-zag design. I liked the bold graphic fabrics and simple block design that creates nice movement for the eye. Sammy was the valedictorian of her class and went on to study at MIT.
Snow fun - The Snowball block was used to give a nice background size for embroidery. Embroidery motifs were chosen or created to reflect the interests of this college grad. Picture is of the new completed quilt but no longer in mint condition as all my quilts are made to be used and enjoyed.
Falling Leaves #4 - Real leaves were used to discharge on Black fabric. Copies of leaves were made using a fusible web tracing of actual leaves used then applied to batik fabric. Cut out leave were then fused to the discharged fabric over the original leave image but off a ¼ in to creative the shadow. Border, batting and backing added then quilted by machine
Geeked - This was a gift for my niece Janelle and her now husband Matt. I used whites in the background, about 15 different ones with a very subtle pattern. Since this was a wedding quilt I wanted some traditional white included. The original pattern called for a green background. The Groom is techie and does a lot of computer repair, programming etc. so I thought the pattern was fun with the squares representing pixels.
New Journey - Given to Amanda and my nephew Tyler for their wedding. Once I knew the brides colors were neutrals and purple I knew I wanted to make this type of quilt for my their wedding gift. Start date was September 1st and completed on October 18th for the wedding on the 19th!
Falling Leaves #3 - Real leaves were used to discharge on Black fabric. Copies of leaves were made using a fusible web tracing of actual leaves used then applied to batik fabric. Cut out leave were then fused to the discharged fabric over the original leave image but off a ¼ in to creative the shadow. Border, batting and backing added then quilted by machine
Fallng Leaves # 2 - Real leaves were used to discharge on Black fabric. Copies of leaves were made using a fusible web tracing of actual leaves used then applied to batik fabric. Cut out leave were then fused to the discharged fabric over the original leave image but off a ¼ in to creative the shadow. Border, batting and backing added then quilted by machine
