Towson University - My daughter graduated from Towson University in Spring 2013. The t-shirts are from field hockey and other activities while in college. My daughter learned to sew in 4-H. We used a light weight fusible knit interfacing to stablize the knit t-shirts. This type of interfacting keeps the t-shirts soft yet stable.
Freedom - I like to design my own quilts, but because I have had a lot of back pain this past year, I have also had a creative block. I thoroughly enjoyed doing this quilt, which was designed by Toni Whitney. The process was raw edge fusible applique.
Christmas Star Pillows - Using leftover blocks and pieces from the Christmas Pinwheel quilt, I made two pillow covers. I use these smaller functional pieces for free-motion practice. The small pillow in the photo was made from my project from a hand-quilting workshop.
Christmas Pinwheels - When a Star Sampler block exchange went all wrong, I de-constructed and reassembled the blocks I received into two star block patterns. I added 16-patch alternate blocks and setting triangles. It was the first large (84 inches square) quilt that I quilted on my little Bernina 153QE.
Finding My Way - Trio of Geese was the May 2013 block for the Block Lotto. Each trio is arranged in light-medium-dark value order. While working on the quilt, I started wondering how geese navigate. I doubt they actually use the stars, but I added some Sawtooth Star blocks to help them find their way.
Small Comfort - When my father died, friends from an online group sent me signed snowballs and 9-patches. There wasn't enough of the 6 inch blocks for a quilt, so I added some orphan blocks, added more snowballs and a flying geese border. The top remained unquilted for far too long; I finally quilted it in early 2013.
Bloom - When I joined a round robin, I made two "starter" packages. One was sent on and became my round robin quilt. I kept the other and designed a quilt of my own using the the starter block and fabrics–it became Bloom.
Cock-a-doodle Tea Towel - Made for Victoria's Tea Towel Challenge on her 15-Minutes blog. I started with a Moda Home tea towel printed with a reproduction of a 1950's design. I had so much fun, I challenged myself to do it again in 2014.
Walk thru Australia - 25 fat qtr from SIL on a trip to Australia 8 yrs ago. Added till I had enough, found a pattern to use all of the fabrics. Fun Adventure.
Sedona Stars on Gold - Started in 2012 Bom from Sarah Vedeler finished in 2013 It as a challenge for my skills I learned so much and I am very pleased with the results
Blue Floral - My newest accomplishment. I made a stencil of the flowers and stencilled the on the quilt. I then quilted inside each petal and made vines. The big blue blocks were quilted in a trellis type mode. Thequilt is 49x67 inches and I think it's my best one so far. I made the narrow blocks by using some of my stash.
Tree Poem - Another quilt I made for my daughter as a Christmas gift. I pieced it and then appliqued part of the tree. Some of the branches are satin stitched various widths. I hand sewed beads that looked like rocks on the bottom. I machine embroidered the poem. The beautiful poem was by Joyce Kilmer.
Cala Lilies - I painted my daughter's favorite flower - cala lillies and then quilted the hanging. I hand sewed beads on the flowers and on the sashing of the quilt. It was my first painted quilt. There were many more requests for hand paint quilts from her.
Spring Has Sprung - Made this fireplace mantle cover for my daughter for Christmas. It was hand painted and then quilted to fit on her fireplace. Pictures are of spring scenes ie garden, umbrelle, rubber boots dark cloud with lightening bolt etc. The center has 3 bumble bees to depict each member of her family dressed and the words Signs of Spring. She was very pleased.
tiger tiger - Made this quilt for my grand daughter, Arielle for her first year of college and on the volleyball team. It is quilted w tiger paws and volleyballs. The tigers which is the volleyball teams logo and are are hand painted with acrylic paints. I quilted the logo by outlining them with transparent thread to bring them out. The tiger paws around each logo and the volleyballs are quilted with white thread to be noticed. I made it to be used, but she displays it on the wall in her apartment at school.
Alphabet Quilt - A color pencil technique on 100% cotton fabric. Made for my first great grand daughter born on December 26 of this year. It can be hung as a wall hanging as well as used in the crib. It was a lot of work especially the drawings, but all worth it.
