Calendar Blocks for Mom - This is the first month and the base of a calendar I am making for my mother. I called it the gift that keeps on giving because she receives a new calendar block each month. It's not only fun for her to receive, but it's fun for me to do since its a small 10 1/2" block that I can usually complete in an afternoon. I don't usually use bright colors but it was fun to use these them. I saved the fabrics and try to use the some in each month's block. I try to use the black & white check in each and every one.
Touched by Ricky (Tims that is) - Ricky came to our guild, Capitol City Quilt Guild, Lansing, MI in September of 2004. I took the convergence class as well as the Kool Kaleidescope class. In the convergence class, Ricky toured the room reviewing fabric choices and when he came to my stack, selected the piece of Electric Rainbow fabric and began to tell me how wonderful it would look if I did ....... obviously he could see a finished quilt. i don't have that visualization talent. He was absolutely correct. It turned out to be wonderful and I do love it.
"Southwest Sunrise" - Sunrise photographs my son, ( JerryMac Lochala), took at a mission close to Houston. I printed them onto fabric and enhanced the fabric pictures with quilting and fabric frames.

Washington DC - Original pictorial applique patterns of Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Capitol Building, Great Seal of the US, Tidal Basin with CHerry BLossoms, Smithsonian Castle, White House, Pentagon, and Kennedy Center.

Polka Dot Stars - I love to hand piece, especially stars. These are 6 inch hand pieced stars. I had a floral fabric picked out for the border and it just didn't look right. I ended up with the large pink polka dot and setting squares and the border (the floral ended up as the backing).
The quilt is machine quilted with spirals in the setting blocks.
Asilomar stars - The Stars were taught at Empty Spools class at Asilomar by Alex Anderson.
I then took the stars home, made more and created what I thought, a pleasing lay out.

Marti Michelle Sampler - Christmas - Marti Michelle did a series of two sampler quilts for Country Stitches. This was the second in the series and I did it using all Christmas fabrics
California Missions - Quilt contains 7 of the 21 California Missions. All patterns include a brief history of the blocok subjects (I got help with this from California 4th graders!)
The wine Bottle - This was started in a class that taught blending photos with fabrics.
Included are photos of various wineries that we have visited.
SO what better than to create a wine bottle.
Pieces of Life - When I first saw the Dear Jane quilt in 1997, I knew I had to make it. The Dear Jane list was a very important part of doing this project. My journal is 2 inches thick.....it's hard to say briefly what it meant to me. It touched my life with much sharing, great love, life long friends, *Hi April*, and confidence to try any block. The name "Pieces of Life" seemed to fit it perfectly.
Luminosity Stars - The only change I made to the pattern was to enlarge it from the wallhanging size shown in the magazine to a proper "nap-size". Nap quilts must be long enough to tuck under your chin and completely cover and wrap under your feet. All fabrics used were part of the Luminosity series by Paula Nadelstern.
