J. T. Graduation
Name of Maker: Joyce Fletcher Menard
J. T. Graduation - Made with fabrics from the four years that I had been quilting, these string quilt blocks had scraps from presents made for a number of his relatives, my relatives and the wounded members of the Armed Services during his high school years. The backing fabric was two remnants of Laurel Birch flannels. As he will begin his college years at the Univ. of Minnesota, he assured me this will cheer up his drab college dorm room. Who knew I'd guess right? That is what I'd hoped for when I started this scrap buster.
Florentine Window
Name of Maker: Ladygator
Florentine Window - Raised with the tradition of the Episcopal church, I was always inspired by the stained glass windows of the church's great cathedrals. Raised by talented sewing mom, I made this rendition of a fabric gothic cathedral window. The name of the fabric was Florentine. With "fabric too pretty to cut into", a nearby stained glass artist provided me the shape of the gothic window. I centered the pattern and fussy cut the window, machine appliqued it to the black ground fabric and added prepared gold fusible 1/4 bias. Quilting was the easy part as the design dictated the quilting.
