Baby Bugs
Name of Maker: Jen Wagner
Baby Bugs - I made this quilt for my girly. It matches her room which is full of butterflies, dragonflies and lady bugs. I did all the straight line quilting on my home machine and the meandering around the applique bugs by hand. This is the only quilt I did any of the quilting by hand. I quickly found I don't have the patience to hand quilt. This quilt took me almost a year to complete.
Mermaids
Name of Maker: Judy
Mermaids - Machine pieced and quilted for my granddaughter who loves mermaids. Started with the mermaid panel and kept adding more and more until it fit the bed.
Monet's Pond
Name of Maker: Judy
Monet's Pond - Done in a class taught by Jan Krentz in AZ using diamond shapes over a large grid. Had fun embellishing even adding 3 dimensional water lillies.
Grandmother's Two for One quilt
Name of Maker: Judy
Grandmother's Two for One quilt - These blocks were made in a class where the instructor demonstrated how to make the block then we managed to create our own. Each block took 8 different fabics. There is no published pattern.
Scrappy Churn Dash
Name of Maker: Judy Welch
Scrappy Churn Dash - I just used scraps from other projects to make the churn dash blocks and then tried lots of different fabrics for the setting triangles until I found the one I thought worked best. Quilt rack made by my husband. It decorates a large "high" wall beautifully. The quilt rack is large enough to hold both this quilt and the Whack and Stack in other photo.
Judy's Whackie Quilt
Name of Maker: Judy Welch
Judy's Whackie Quilt - I bought the fabric without any idea what I was going to do with it. When a cousin wanted a quilt of these colors--I decided to try this fabric with this pattern. What a delight, it was so fun to see the various designs show up. I made two quilts and none of the squares looked the same. I modified the size of the pinwheel and did my own setting. I used some of the scrap "stacks" to make mini-pinwheels for the corners.
Gift to Brian and Kelly
Name of Maker: Judy Welch
Gift to Brian and Kelly - Made for a gift for Christmas. Husband's contribution was the quilt rack it is hanging on.
Baltimore Bouquets
Name of Maker: Jbtaz36
Baltimore Bouquets - This was one of my first attempts at hand applique and learned a lot of new techniques while taking the class. I didn't choose the traditional Baltimore album colors but opted to step out of the box.
The Sampler Quilt
Name of Maker: Jbtaz36
The Sampler Quilt - This is my very first quilt, machine pieced, and hand quilted. It took me one year to complete.
Introduction Quilt
Name of Maker: Clara Lawrence
Introduction Quilt - I have a love of quilting, art and horses. I have spent a lot of time watching and studying horse behavior. I especially enjoy the interactions. That spark moment when two new horses meet and touch noses. There is electricity in the air. Will it be long lost buddies or a problem? This drawing was taken from several photos and then put together for this quilt. The original drawing was also used for my sister's wedding invitation.
ToughTimes
Name of Maker: miekenoor
ToughTimes - This is my first quilt that was on an exhibition. I was so proud! But when I made the quilt I had several different fabrics and sometimes I had to start all over again and that's why it's called toughtimes. When I see it now, I wouldn't have used green with it. The appliquations is silk and the blocks around it are batik and cotton. I think the colors aren't in balance. But anyway it was my first sampler and I love it for that.
strandquilt (beachquilt)
Name of Maker: mekenoor
strandquilt (beachquilt) - Another collegue of mine became father in 2003. He asked me to make a babyquilt with beachdesigns (since Den Helder is near the beach). I bought fabrics with sand, water, footsteps in the sand, shells etc. and made the blocks with it. He wanted it to be a real thick quilt so I bought the thickest batting I could find.
Voor Yentl (for Yentl)
Name of Maker: miekenoor
Voor Yentl (for Yentl) - A collegue of mine was pregnant. I wanted to make a babyquilt for her. She liked the idea, and I made her this quilt with Sun Bonnet Sues. In the middle is an empty block. When the baby was born, I received a birthcard, I print that on fabric en appliqued it on the empty space. I made this picture before Yentl was born. My collegue is very anxious that the quilt gets dirty or damaged, so she hardly uses it for its perpose, but I like the idea she treats it like a treasure ;-)
Kattenkop
Name of Maker: miekenoor
Kattenkop - My daughter left the house to study. I made her a bedquilt. She adores animals, especially cats. So I took fabrics with cats en made crazy bloks around those heads with bright colours and black. She still uses it, but not on her bed, but on her couch.
Garden Path
Name of Maker: Jen Wagner
Garden Path - I made this beginner quilt to teach some of my friends how to quilt. While shopping for fabric, a little girl saw what I had chosen and said, "Nice fabrics!" I was really pleased with how well this turned out. I did a simple quilting design all free motion. The swirls in the quilting add to the movement from the rail fence blocks.
Voor jou van mij (for you from me)
Name of Maker: miekenoor
Voor jou van mij (for you from me) - It's a small wallquilt, made for my husband's office. It is made with silk and cotton fabrics. I made one mistake and noticed it when it was finished, can you find it? I wanted to change it, but DH told me it made the quilt more interesting. And it belongs to my way of quilting, I never follow a pattern exactly, even if I want to ;-).
Funky Flowers
Name of Maker: Jen Wagner
Funky Flowers - I found the fabric with the big pink flowers at the quilt show in Henderson, NV. I had no idea what I was going to do with it but I had to take it home. I found great retro fabrics that complimented it perfectly at Nancy's Quilt Shop. I wanted to do something simple because I wanted to make a large quilt in a couple months. I added more of the diamonds and took off the borders from the pattern. I am quilting the big flowers from my inspiration fabric in the diamonds and have done a very large meandering everywhere else.
