From A Friend 2
Name of Maker: Phyl
From A Friend 2 - Another donation quilt for the nursing home.
From A Friend 1
Name of Maker: Phyl
From A Friend 1 - This is one of several lap quilts I've made and am making for nursing home residents. I wanted to buy new fabrics instead of just scraps, and make them bright and cheery. My favorite aunt is a resident there and she chooses each recipient.
Red, White and Blue Mystery
Name of Maker: Donna Toback
Red, White and Blue Mystery - Made with scraps of fat quarters left from another project. Each block is from a different fat quarter of red or blue on a white background. Don't forget to check my profile photos for the picture of my Harkey Seat for sitting and machine quilting on my frame. Ricky, don't be too jealous.
Stars over Birmingham
Name of Maker: Donna Nicholson
Stars over Birmingham - At least 43 greens were collected over the year and used in this quilt. Pattern uses 1/2 square triangles making piecing very easy.
Flowers for Pat
Name of Maker: Donna Nicholson
Flowers for Pat - Hand-pieced, hand-quilted wall hanging commissioned as a Christmas gift for my SIL's mother.
Linda's Garden
Name of Maker: Self
Linda's Garden - Made this for my sister, a master gardener. She chose the fabrics. Made a table runner for myself from leftovers. This was a breakthrough for me in free motion quilting. First time I was able to do a fill!
Tzivai Ha-brit (Colors of the Covenant)
Name of Maker: Self
Tzivai Ha-brit (Colors of the Covenant) - I did this with a collection of hand-dyes and batiks, based on Ricky Tims' Flying Colors, one seam Flying Geese. This is just the top, not yet quilted. The name is in Hebrew, translated means Colors of the Covenant.
My First Quilt
Name of Maker: Mary Kay Runyan
My First Quilt - This was my first quilt, designed based on a quilt I saw at our local quilt shop in Humble, TX. I had no idea what I was doing, but had a great time figuring it out! Instead of quilting, I tied the quilt.
Jacob's Quilt
Name of Maker: Mary Kay Runyan
Jacob's Quilt - I made this quilt for a friend's first grandchild. Embroidary patterns were purchased.
Lime sorbet block challenge
Name of Maker: Assembled by Connie Schwartz
Lime sorbet block challenge - This is a block. The challenge was to use lime green as one of the colors. I found a picture of abstract art and it became my inspiration. I cut out a variety of shapes, used wonderunder and steam a seam to iron on my pieces. I then zigzagged or used my machine stitches around the pieces. I love this abstract and I need to frame it.
Glacier Park
Name of Maker: Connie Schwartz
Glacier Park - I created this landscape from a picture I took when I was at Glacier Park in Montana in 2004. I went to the NDISQS for a class to do the mini landscape wallhanging. I tried to make the fabric match what the actual photo looked like and used freemotion and machine embroidery to give the picture texture. It used be in a frame, but I took it out of the frame to enter it in the 2009 Capital Quilters Quiltfest. It won 3rd place in the art division.
Hippy Bus wall hanging
Name of Maker: Connie Schwartz
Hippy Bus wall hanging - This wallhanging was created for a contest. We were challenged to use only the fabric that had been previously selected plus one of our own. I used to never work with warm colors. After making several sketches on what I should do with the fabric - the fabric that had symbols on it became my inspiration for my Hippy Bus. Although I did not win the contest - I was very proud of my submission.
Summertime
Name of Maker: self
Summertime - Background, red, yellow, and green fabrics were string-pieced and appliques and diamonds were cut from the resulting fabric. I had so much fun playing on the design wall to place the appliques where I wanted them. This quilt will be patterned in an upcoming book later next year and is a copyrighted design.
WonkyWorks13
Name of Maker: Jolet Migdal
WonkyWorks13 - This is also a fairly early wallhanging, and at the time I didn't think that much of it, but it's one of my favorites now. I did alot of experimenting and cutting through. The batiek balls were fused on afterwards and I couldn't stop adding them! Since I have run out of wall space, alot of my wallhangings are in a drawer, but this one is always out.
Solar Rose
Name of Maker: Maggi Birchenough
Solar Rose - Photo of a rose manipulated in Photoshop and then printed onto linen, cotton and organza. Each print made into a mini quilt and then attached to background quilt in the style of Jean Wells. Background fabric is hand-dyed from Laura Wasilowski
