Title not yet Determined - This quilt will be auctioned off by the Rockford (IL) Symphony Orchestra as part of its 75th anniversary celebration. The words are from the choral movement of Beethoven's 9th Symphony as are the musical notes that appear on the staff lines.
I used Melinda Bula's fusing technique for the figure of Beethoven. Each letter was traced on to the fabric; I quilted around each one individually, then colored them in with fabric markers. There is a little bit of subtle thread-painting used to "dress up" the figure, but not so much that it becomes a distraction from the overall impact.
Bouvier Bear - I designed this quilt for our first grandchild. It's made entirely of bright flannels. Naming the quilt was easy - one of Nicholas' early and most favorite words was "bouvier".....so the quilt was named "Bouvier Bear". Featured in Quilt Magazine
Monocular I - My minigroup decided to explore circles for one of our small projects. This was my contribution. I ran into problems with the fusible web I was using (SteamASeam) so I am not happy with the quality of the quilt, but I like the design enough to play around with it some more.
Quiet Village - I wanted to design village quilt. Originally it was going to be a very brightly colored fantasy village, but then a hillside village in Tuscany developed. I used manipulated bias to achieve the curved diamonds of color in the "tile" wall around the village. This quilt is being featured in McCall's Quilting magazine in their June to October issues.
House On Willow Hill - House quilts are a favorite of mine. This quilt was designed for a contest and was featured in McCall's Quilting as a 5 part series quilt. I used many different techniques to achieve the design elements so that this would be a real learning adventure.
Callie's Quilt - This quilt is done with courthouse steps style block with the center being a Paddington Bear print. The back of the quilt is flannel and the batting is polydream
Lighthouse - I saw this fabric on eBay and fell in love with it. I wanted to make a masculine quilt, something no flower fabric or patterns. The backing is a faded nautical map pattern. The batting is undyed cotton. I purchased the quilting service off of eBay and she did a great job, using a wave like stich pattern.
Melina/Chaska's Quilt - One of two quilts I made for my newly adopted grand neices. Due to time constraints, I had to keep the design simple. I chose to use ethnic looking fabrics to reflect their Indian/Peruvian heritage, and I wanted them to really use the quilt(not just keep them for 'nice') so this choice would be practical as well. They turned out quite pleasing and for once, I didn't get carried away with too much hand quilting!
Matthew's Broken Star - My son always enjoyed my sewing endeavors and this was to be his quilt - we chose the broken star pattern and I added the original 'star' ends. The patriotic color scheme seemed to be a good choice for a boy. This was my first real bed size quilt....and it turned out pretty good. Loved hand quilting it! And he still prizes his quilt, keeping it in very good condition!
Amish Crib Quilt - Years ago, my DH suggested that I get out of the house and take a quilt class for fun and to meet others....so I signed up and yup..you guessed it, I was the only person taking the class! So much for socializing!! Anyhow, the instructor and I had a great time visiting and this quilt is the result. I especially loved the hand quilting and designs I chose.
My Menopause Quilt!! - I call this my menopause quilt because I was having such a hard time with so many things during those years, that I chose to do a log cabin pattern as it was so simple and wouldn't take too much concentration! I love the southwest colors and chose to hand quilt it - the majority of the quilting pattern is from the book 'Quilting Makes the Quilt'! I loved the result!
Paul and Cinda's Wedding Quilt - Challenged to make a wedding quilt for my brother and his wife - with colors I was not crazy about - I used a purchased pattern that I had bought many years earlier...I ended up enjoying it immensely....even those large triangles with their biases! I also learned to use waxed paper piecing on the applique. Again, I loved it even more after I hand quilted it with my original designs!
Love Those Purples and Greens! - I fell in love with the purple and greens of the grape floral fabric and just had to make a quilt with that fabric and those colors...I chose the feathered star block as a challenge to my accuracy!. I really enjoyed hand quilting this quilt and added little details such as the piping in the binding. You just have to really like purple and green to enjoy this quilt!
Matthew's Favorite! - Made this quilt 'just for nothing' - loved using the bright colors...added more colors, applique pieces, and embroidery, than the original pattern design had. Also was the first time I used paper piecing. Loved using the mixed, printed background. I loved making this quilt!
Guide Me - I'd designed this quilt intending to piece it, but then I had an itch to make a wholecloth. Maybe one day it will be pieced as well. All the quilting is done with Masterpiece by Superior threads.
Daylilies - Made as a wedding gift for my daughter, she chose the brown, ecru, and green colors for this tesselation design known as Daylilies by Jinny Beyer. Except for the borders, it is entirely hand pieced and hand quilted(in my original design).
