This quilt will be auctioned off by the Rockford (IL) Symphony Orchestra as part of its 75th anniversary celebration. The words are from the choral movement of Beethoven's 9th Symphony as are the musical notes that appear on the staff lines. I used Melinda Bula's fusing technique for the figure of Beethoven. Each letter was traced on to the fabric; I quilted around each one individually, then colored them in with fabric markers. There is a little bit of subtle thread-painting used to "dress up" the figure, but not so much that it becomes a distraction from the overall impact. |
