Holly Birdie
Name of Maker: Sylvia Gauthier
Holly Birdie - Traci Suzanne Marvel and I have a pattern design company called Woolin Rouge Designs. We designed this table set for a French Magazine, Magic Patch. It has napkins and napkin rings to match. Traci did a line drawing of the bird and I did the rest of the designing and putting the table setting together. We both come up with the fabrics. It is made from Kate Spains 12 Days of Christmas and the applique is all wool. This design is produced by Bigfork Bay Cotton Company.
Whirls & Swirls
Name of Maker: Wendy Bain
Whirls & Swirls - I once saw an Amish square in a square quilt made in red and turquoise. I would never have believed these colors went together, but they just glowed. This is is my version--more contemporary--of a quilt I never forgot.
RE-TIE-R-MENT
Name of Maker: Gary Crutchfield
RE-TIE-R-MENT - Quilt was made from the ties that I wore before I retired
Midnight Thunder
Name of Maker: Cindy Wilson
Midnight Thunder - Created from a kit for auction to benefit the River Valley Riders, a program that uses therapy horses to aid people with developmental issues.
MQ Challenge 2009
Name of Maker: Cindy Wilson
MQ Challenge 2009 - This was the 2009 Minnesota Quilter's Challenge fabric. The theme was based upon the north shore of Minnesota (along Lake Superior), and should include flying geese. My design concept was a "flock of flying geese" taking off from a northern lake at sunset. It was sold at silent auction to benefit my cousin Linda, who is battling stomach and liver cancer.
MQ Challenge 2008
Name of Maker: Cindy Wilson
MQ Challenge 2008 - This was designed for the 2008 Minnesota Quilter's Challenge, which was to commemorate the MQ's 30th Birthday. In the design, there are 3 shells, one for each decade. From each, the seahorse is pulling a string of 10 pearls, one for each year. The fabrics were all a part of the "Challenge Packet" to be used for the project. This not only won 1st place, but it was then put into the Silent Auction and brought almost $250. I was very honored.
Western Flamingo
Name of Maker: Cindy Wilson
Western Flamingo - A friend was moving from Minnesota to New Jersey. I made two of these quilts...one that faces "east" and one that faces "west". The background was constructed using the technique in "Simply Stunning Woven Quilts" by Anna Faustino. The flamingo is an original design using many pink fabrics and thread painting. The "facing east" flamingo hangs in my sewing studio. The "facing west" flamingo is in New Jersey with my friend Pam.
Caribbean Threads
Name of Maker: Cindy Wilson
Caribbean Threads - This was a piece I used to learn the two techniques....Ricky Tim's Convergence technique, and Libby Lehman's ThreadPlay ribbons. It hangs in my sewing studio.
Sydney Harbour
Name of Maker: Cindy Wilson
Sydney Harbour - This is a reproduction of a photograph, taken by my friend while in Sydney. Given to her daughter as a Christmas present in 2008.
Mahogany Leaf
Name of Maker: paulaj
Mahogany Leaf - This quilt was part of a challenge with the quilting group I belong to. Everyone was going to do flowers but not following the 'rules' as usual, I did this leaf instead, based on Georgia O'Keefe's "Dark and Lavender Leaf". I experimented with piecing it in the style of Cynthia England or piecing it in a more realistic fashion. Realism won. The background is hand dyed and the quilt is machine quilted.
Amaryllis
Name of Maker: Paulaj
Amaryllis - I just love this quilt. It will alternate with "Mahogany Leaf" (which has also been posted) over the fireplace in my living room. Lennie Honcoop has 8 others in the series and I have to check them out.
Tissue Paper Poppies
Name of Maker: Lynn Ann Majidimehr
Tissue Paper Poppies - I designed my quilt Tissue Paper Poppies for my book, Flower Show Quilts. In the book, the pattern is called Crepe-Paper Poppies.
Grandmother's memory quilt
Name of Maker: Carol Royer
Grandmother's memory quilt - Center block is a picture of my sister, grandmother of my great nephew.
dollhouse quilts
Name of Maker: wildflower123
dollhouse quilts - Quilts made for my granddaughter's dollhouses.
Hopi Sun Variation
Name of Maker: Ann
Hopi Sun Variation - I previously discussed on the forum about my desire to make my quilt into a shower curtain. This is in a second bath that rarely gets used so I don't think it getting wet will be an issue. The Kachina doll used in the center is machine embroidered - a pattern purchased from Embroidery Library. I hung it with those pinch curtain rings so I did not have to mess with putting in grommets, also, this way there is no damage to the quilt if I later want to use it differently.
Kylie's Spring
Name of Maker: Mary Rapp
Kylie's Spring - Kylie was an exchange student in our community the year our daughter was a senior. We attended her wedding in Australia in the fall of 2011. She had requested wall hangings that would remind her of the seasons in Wisconsin. This is the one I created to represent summer. There are folded fabric flowers of various types growing on the trellis.
Stars for a New Day
Name of Maker: Rachel Eby
Stars for a New Day - I liked the idea of making this all from my stash, scrappy style. However, it didn't even make a dent in the amount of fabric I have! I began it with no one person in mind, but while I was working on it, my son Paul decided to get married. Now that it is finished, it will be his at Christmas.
Vases of Fun
Name of Maker: Barbara Sanders
Vases of Fun - I had a great time appliqueing Sue Garmin's 2008 BOM published here at The Quilt Show. I reduced the size of the blocks to 12". I added a swag border to make it different. The quilt is basted but not yet quilted. I have wanted to post this quilt so went ahead even though the quilting will happen some time in the future.
Dr. Seuss Tumbler Quilt
Name of Maker: Marsha Miles
Dr. Seuss Tumbler Quilt - I bought this tumbler quilt kit from The Quilt Store in Danbury, Connecticut. I love the Dr. Seuss fabric. They had so many great tumbler quilts available. Since I was traveling it was easiest to buy a kit rather than just yardage.
Sleeps with Butterflies
Name of Maker: Beth French
Sleeps with Butterflies - A rainbow of colors with my daughter in mind. She named the quilt after a Tori Amos song. I used Judy Martin's Shining Star Quilts book for the technique, which is not strip piecing. Wool batting.
