Too Many Spikes!!! - Paper foundation pieced with commercial cottons, batiks and my own hand-dyed fabrics. Free motion quilted on an HQ 16 Sit-Down machine with Sulky rayon threads.
Bedtime Blankie - I started working on this quilt while I was caring for my elderly mother. The applique was portable and I could work on it while I was sitting with her in the hospital. The teddybears made her smile.
Together at Lake Berryessa - This image was created from my own vacation photograph after taking a
"Linear Landscape" on-line class from Gloria Loughman. It involved creating my own contoured pattern, a hand painted sky, reverse raw edge appliqué, an analogous colour scheme, and free motion machine quilting. The simplified contour design creates a slightly abstract image. Varying the colour, value, and texture in the fabrics helped to develop depth and perspective.
Purple Ever After - I made this with my hand dyed fabrics and is a combination of pieced and machine appliqued. The plant is an enlarged doodle of mine, soon to be part of a color series.
Henry and the Purple Crayon - I have 23 grand nieces and nephews. And they all get a quilt when they are born! I like to take favorite children books and make a quilt for them. My nephew, Sam's was "Henry and the Purple Crayon". I had not heard of it but when I went to buy the book they were celebrating their 50th anniversary edition!
Sam and his wife did not want to know the sex of their baby. But their little girl, Stella, got a "Henry" quilt!
Points of Elegance - Prairie points with high impact are featured on this fireplace mantle runner. Pattern, now available for purchase, also includes a coordinating table runner and placemat.
Seasons: Tree of Life - "Seasons: Tree of Life" was made for the 2013 Piecing Partners Quilt Challenge "Seasons." I wanted to make a Tree of Life quilt and also wanted to try a new stained glass technique, so I combined the two.
Mariner's Alphabet - The alphabet in international maritime signal flags, with accent stripes and nautical fabrics. Original pattern, now available for purchase. Flags are foundation pieced.
Fireballs - A strata of curved strips was assembled, more strips, trims and yarns added on top. Then circles were cut out of the quilt top and rearranged. Technique from Dena Crain.
Royal Star - A Christmas card and an ombre blue snowflake fabric inspired me to design this quilt. The pattern and hanging instructions were published in the November 2012 American Quilter magazine.
