Almost 200 hours in constructing and quilting (50 hours handguided)
Deb's Quilt - This quilt was made for a good friend, undergoing chemo......created to keep her warm during treatments. Back has the softest flannel I could find.
Rift Valley - Although I live in the city, it is vast, open spaces of land that truly inspire me. Undeveloped and untouched land makes me think about how so much of our earth looked to earlier inhabitants. As time passes, and these vistas disappear, they seem even more precious. I like to imagine what people long before me felt when they first saw the same landscape. There are still some places on earth that can awaken that collective memory.
(And the scrap basket is still full) - Big thanks to Alex for the idea! Wish I could remember what date hers appeared in the blog. It was a great way to use up some scraps and also some orphan star blocks!
Quilt of Valor #25 - I received a tutorial from my daughter on email, printed it out, and made this quilt to send to Quilt of Valor Foundation. The block on the tutorial was 5", mine was 8", four blocks make the large block, 16".
Waiting for Lovers - "Waiting for Lovers" was based on a photo taken in Venice in 2012 while on a camera club photo tour. The quilt is raw edge, fused, machine appliqued and quilted and represents a wonderful memory of a wonderful trip.
Celebrating At The Lake - This is a guild challenge quilt, and was probably the most enjoyable quilt I have ever made. It just seemed to come to life before my very eyes. The fireworks, and their reflection in the water, are all done free motion with metallic threads. The water is Angelina, layered on top of a beautiful batik. The lady's hair and the bush are yarn. This quilt commemorates the many anniversaries that my husband and I have celebrated on Flathead Lake in Montana.
Newly Discovered Planets - I wanted to make a circle quilt which was not concentric circles. I found a quilt in the January 2003 issue of Quilter's Newsletter which had circles completed of tapering angles. This really appealed to me.
Lily pad - A friend of mine takes such great pictures and I wanted to turn one of his photos into a quilt . This is what I came up with. Lucky me I have permission from this photo genius to use any of the photos he takes to use as a inspiration for a quilt.
Bluebirds - My granddaughter wanted a blue quilt for her bed. They live in Germany and the beds are a different size than ours in the states, so this was adapted to fit her bed. It is made from a jelly roll with added bird fabric and has a scalloped border.
Changes - This quilt was made for the Riley Blake Fabric Challenge organized by The Modern Quilt Guild. I am an individual online member. We were given 6 Fat Eights. Instructions were to make something "Quilted". Added fabrics could only be solids or Riley Blake Printed Fabric. An appliqued "earth" from the Riley Blake's DeTour line was added. This quilt was designed using EQ7 software making it easy to reshape the blocks for paper piecing. I like the Lorraine Torrence Shifting Perspective style quilts which was the inspiration.
Whole Cloth - Whole cloth quilt pattern is an original design that I drawed out. It's done in Superiors variegated, glide threads, the medallion flowers are done in fun thread play fill ins. Quilted on my sit down long arm TL.
