Electric Feathers - Electric Blue was my first attempt to make a quilt to enter into a show...after 20 years I decided it was time. It is an original design drafted with a feathered star in the center. All the quilting designs are original drawings as well. I used the templates to draft feathers in the large triangle pieces and then quilted a wavy feather in blue thread through all the black sashings.
The Best There Is- Anniversary Quilt - This quilt was made for my husband for our 25 Anniversary. We entered it into the Browning Outdoor company "Show us your Buckmark" contest and it won. They are using it in their advertising this fall. Browning gave us a very nice Rifle for the award...which I promptly handed over to my husband!
A Celebration of Sophia - This quilt was made for my sister to commemorate the birth of her fourth child, Sophia. I did a hand drawing, had it enlarged and then did a fusible applique out of batiks. The background is embellished with Swarovski crystals. This was my first attempt at creating an art quilt from my own sketch.
Little Boy Blue - This was a commissioned quilt. The owner wanted a quilt based on the poem "Little Boy Blue" by Eugene Field. The challenge for me was to learn how to paint a face on fabric. I used a technique taught by Lura Schwarz Smith in her Workshop-To-Go DVD "Faces in Fabric."
Country Pineapple - This quilt was paper-pieced using mostly scrap fabrics from my collection. It began as a smaller project in a class at my favorite local quilting store, The Stitching Corner. It started out as a twin quilt but quickly grew to queen size. This quilt holds a place of honor on my bed.
Castle Rock - I had the wonderful fortune of being able to attend a workshop by sue Gilgen in which she introduced me to raw-edge applique and fusible webbing. Sue helped me choose the fabrics, which I think makes the quilt so beautiful. This quilt reminds me of our family vacations on a houseboat at Lake Powell.
Party Colors - This quilt top is from a design by Tricia Cribbs called Turning Twenty. The bright batiks were part of a kit which was available at the Cornwagon Quilt Store in Springville, Utah.
Christel's Quilt - The wish of my friend was to have a quilt with the main batik fabrics (flowers, spirals) and that the whole quilt will have mainly brown colors like her furniture.
There is no real pattern or block, the color and the contrast do the work.
As Close to Kandinsky As I'll Get - I absolutely love Kandinsky's work. Of course, I'll never be able to afford an original. I decided that making this quilt was as close as I'll get! The borders are machine quilted; the body is hand quilted. It is made with commercial and hand-dyed fabrics.
Is It Summer Yet? - This quilt was juried into the Pacific International Quilt Festival in 2003 and chosen for the "In Full Bloom: Floral Quilts" Exhibit in 2004.
Ashley - Ashley was my mother’s much beloved dog. Ashley was an older dog when my mother got her. She didn’t get to spend many years with her. After Ashley died, I made this quilt for my mother.
Quilt Diva - I altered the pattern so the “diva” would look more like me—I added my hair, my glasses, and my taste in fabrics, but I forgot the big earrings.
Exploring Fabric Choices - I was a quilt tester for Annie's Exploring Fabric Choices Workshop patterns; this quilt is the result. It came with Annie to the set of The Quilt Show.
Abundance - This began as a photograph of tulips taken in the Botanical Conservatory in Fort Wayne. I love the way the filters separated the colors and created texture within the petals.
