Mystery Quilt - This was a mystery quilt offered by Among Friends Quilt Shop, Louisville, KY. The shop used Laurel Burch fabrics. I love batiks so I chose the boarder fabric (not knowing what the pattern was) and the shop chose the other fabrics. The first month we were given four fabrics and they were to be stripped. The next month we were given the ruler and told to cut the strip sets. The next month we sewed them all together. It was a fun project.
Happy - I love Hawaiian applique and I love Japanese pop art, so this is my attempt at both. My design was printed by the good folks at Spoonflower.com and I'm in the process of hand quilting it. I am so in love with this quilt!!! The backing is an enormous red and white polka dot.
Dance - This Rhapsody quilt, featuring cowboy themes, was started in 2006 at Ricky Tims' Rocky Mountain Quilt Retreat at the Glen Eyrie Castle in Colorado Springs, CO. It was a wild river ride and a real labor of love. I'm excited that it will be in Ricky's next Rhapsody companion book.
Intense Horse - A stallion from a nearby barn inspired this quilt. While I was photographing him, he seemed to just glow in the hot summer. I played with sheers in the quilt to add a little zing and intensity. The yarn has angora in it to add a softness that this stallion also had in his personality. The quilting is very dense and added a painted feeling to the piece. It was a finalist at the International Quilt Show in Houston 2008. My first quilt show and I got in. Yipee!
pillows - Pillows are so wonderful when trying new block patterns and not necessarily wanting to make a whole quilt. So these are fun focus items in many rooms and also make wonderful gifts. All are completely washable which is an added bonus.
Christ Pantokrator - This is the second in my Icon series using Beth Wheeler's technique (Episode 211). "Pantokrator" means "All Mighty" in Greek. This quilt is based on the oldest icon in existence, dating from about 500 AD. A close-up is in my profile.
Summerbreeze - First quilt made using the BSR foot it was great fun, made plenty of mistakes but quilt is going to
my step daughter who is 40 years old and cannot even sew on a button so guess she at least will be impressed.
Ricky's Shadow - This quilt will be donated to a raffle to support the program where I work. It is based on Ricky's Convergence quilts, with a shadow effect border- hence the name!
Windows on Kate's World - Entirely machine-made using Shelley Swanland's "Machine-Stitched Cathedral Windows" book and method. The design got away from me tho' and the thing is BIG and was quite a hand-full to quilt! A high-school graduation gift, she wants to be a journalist thus it's "black and white and red all over"!
Batik Bowties - I used all my favourite Batiks in this quilt. When constructiong the bow-tie blocks, I saved the little snippets from the corners and used them to make the one inch finished half-square triangles that are in the border. This is the first quilt that I put into a show. Our local guild has a small show and BOY did I learn a lot! Can't wait for our next one!
