Stars Ablazin
Name of Maker: Mandy James (Mandysilk)
Stars Ablazin - This quilt was made for my MIL. She chose the colors and said she wanted "something with stars or something." I started with a free design found on the internet, enlarged it to Q size, and added the blazing star on a whim using the triangle peices left over from makinging the outer stars. Started Jan 1 2006, finished May 15th 2007. Updated photo shows the two pillow shams with blazing stars as well and the throw pillow I made her for Christmas 2007.
A Life Full of Diversity
Name of Maker: Mandy James
A Life Full of Diversity - This quilt was made as a way to use up a lot of scraps I had laying around and using a technique of sewing scraps together and cutting the templet peices out from the "created" fabric. As I was making it I thought of Morgan Freeman's line in Robin Hood when the little girl asks why he is "painted" - his response was "Because God loves life full of wonderous diversity." My first try at freemotion quilting.
The Pittsburgh Quilt
Name of Maker: Mandy James
The Pittsburgh Quilt - I made this quilt in self defense lol. I had just finished a quilt for my father that was all Dogder fabrics, and my husband complaned the whole time that if I was going to make a baseball quilt I could at least pick a good team. While he was out of town I started this quilt to make it up to him - he is a huge Pittsburgh Pirate fan.
Ballerinas
Name of Maker: Mandy James (mandysilk)
Ballerinas - This was a quilt I made for my girls last year for their recital. the ballerina fabric was actually saved from scraps from a night gown I made Sarah several years ago. I had just enough for the central squares and fussy cut the ones on the sides. It was also my very first attempt at applique.

Champagne Dupioni Dahlia
Name of Maker: Patty Latourell
Champagne Dupioni Dahlia - I wanted to make a silk quilt using dupioni, this was quite a challenge, I fused the center dahlia pieces to keep them from fraying. The marking and quilting took 4 months. I adapted feather designs to fit each petal in the flower and used varigated King Tut thread to enhance the colors, each flower round used a different color of thread and design. I then marked the background quilting using a light table. I wanted the hearts to align on the pillow tuck. A wool batt was used to add to the design puff, I tried a sample piece using trapunto, but it was too difficult to cut away the batting, I kept cutting holes into the silk. The quilt was juried into Road to California 2008.
