Champagne Dupioni Dahlia

Champagne Dupioni Dahlia - I wanted to make a silk quilt using dupioni, this was quite a challenge, I fused the center dahlia pieces to keep them from fraying. The marking and quilting took 4 months. I adapted feather designs to fit each petal in the flower and used varigated King Tut thread to enhance the colors, each flower round used a different color of thread and design. I then marked the background quilting using a light table. I wanted the hearts to align on the pillow tuck. A wool batt was used to add to the design puff, I tried a sample piece using trapunto, but it was too difficult to cut away the batting, I kept cutting holes into the silk. The quilt was juried into Road to California 2008.
