Name of Maker: Katherine Steffan
Grammie Loves You as High as the Stars - This quilt was started with a scrap piece of fabric at a technique class using The Circle A Round book by Cheryl Phillips and the Cut around ruler taught by Diane Monde at Aurora Sewing Center in E Aurora NY. I can't bear to waste anything so I quick printed off some pictures of planets and selected the Jupiter fabric from my stash. I did that circle in class and the rest I places and did on my own. The little circles are fused. I used Ricky Tims Sparkling thread for the orbit and left it off of Pluto since this is no longer concidered a planet! This was my first big atttempt at free motion and I did swirls with my daughter, her husband's and my four grandchildren's name hidden in quilt writing. I used a smoke clear thread.

Benny's 50th birthday quilt
Name of Maker: Brigitte Van Puyenbroeck
Benny's 50th birthday quilt - A dear friend of mine, Benny, recently turned 50! A very special birthday, so I thought that deserved a very special present! About 15 years ago he became very ill and was taken too the hospital! I made him a litlle tree from beads! When he told me a few months ago he still had that tree after all these years, I was so deeply touched, I just couldn't believe it! That's when I decided to make him a quilt, a life in pictures! It wasn't very easy to get a hold of the pictures and keeping it a secret from him, but in the end I got there! Seeing it was my first quilt and I had only two months to finish it I thought I wouldn't make it to big and do only the front side with pictures of him and make the back of the quilt very simple with only one or two fabrics! As I got swept away by this project, it actually almost took over my life, I got this great idea of doing something special with the backside aswell!!! Seeing he is a big fan of our kings and queens I decided to get the whole Belgium history on the back of the quilt!!! In the end I had to put the metal to the pedal ....I finished it two hours before his birthday party!!! The exspression on his face was priceless and worth every second of the time I put into it! This was almost two monts ago and the quilt is still the talk of the town... Hope you like it too! Brigitte
