Life in Holly Ridge
Name of Maker: Nancy Prince
Life in Holly Ridge - Approximately 50,000 yards of thread and 5 million stitches created the thread painted designs. No embroidery cards were used. The background fabric was hand painted and Tsukineko Inks were used to ink the doors and windows on the houses and bias sided stores. My grandchildren are the merchants in the town. It took approximately 1500 hours of frustration, a ton of trial and error and incredible fun and ultimately total joy to complete the quilt. Take a look around the town and step back in history a bit.
Longing for the Past
Name of Maker: Nancy Prince
Longing for the Past - Thread is the tie that binds this quilt together. Approximately 12,000 yards of thread, over 100 thread colors and close to 3 million stitches are intertwined throughout the thread painted designs. No embroidery cards were used. Hand painted fabric was used for the background and painted quilt bias binding created each individual board of siding on the house and church. Longing for the Past is a step back into a seemingly simpler moment in time.
2 Meeting Street
Name of Maker: Nancy Prince
2 Meeting Street - While on a spring vacation in Charleston, SC, I took a photograph of a back porch of a wonderful and nostalgic bed and breakfast at 2 Meeting Street. The grounds and especially the azaleas were in magnificent bloom and I could already envision my next quilt as I snapped the picture. The quilt was hand appliquéd and except for the borders and backing, the fabric was hand-painted. The appliqué embroidery such as the flowerpots, foreground flowers and trees were achieved by free-motion machine embroidery. The quilt top was machine quilted.
CountryRoads
Name of Maker: Nancy Prince
CountryRoads - Country Roads depicts quietness and is a virtual escape to a simpler way of life. Thread painting created the three and one half million stitches necessary to create the embroidered designs. No machine embroidery cards were used. The inspiration for the design came from a calendar and memories of growing up in the mountains of North Carolina. As I made the quilt, I could imagine walking down the dirt road on my way to nowhere.
This Moment in Time
Name of Maker: Nancy Prince
This Moment in Time - Having lived in Florida for a good part of my life there is always a water view close by. I lived on the Banana River and wanted to make a quilt of life on the river.
Summer Day
Name of Maker: Nancy Prince
Summer Day - I always wanted my grandmother to live in the country and sadly for me she lived in the city. So I thought I would make a quilt where I wanted my grandmother to live. At my grandmothers there were always kid sto play with and I can't remember a time when she didn't have clothes drying on the line. While she wasn't an avid gardner, she always had a garden of the basics. And of course, I had her living in a farm house rather than a city house. I think of her every time I look at the quilt.
Butterfly Garden
Name of Maker: Nancy M. Roelfsema
Butterfly Garden - I made this quilt for our guilds (West Michigan Quilters Guild) challenge. The fabric was used in the background and was a batik with butterflies.
Kalidascope Logs
Name of Maker: Nancy M. Roelfsema
Kalidascope Logs - Wendy Butler Burns came and taught a class at our guild, West Michigan Quilters Guild (www.wmqg.org), in 2005. My origianl plan for the blocks was a bust so it turned into this little quilt. I used some of Ricky Tims fabric for the border and used his technique to "set in" the border. Now that was fun:)

Kyoto Kaede
Name of Maker: Me
Kyoto Kaede - This quilt is the product of a workshop with the wonderful Ruth McDowell. It is entirely pieced from my sketch using her freezer paper method. My original drawing was pieced in mainly Asian fabrics and mounted in the manner of a Japanese scroll painting. I was thrilled that this quilt was selected to be exhibited at the AQS Show in Nashville in 2007.
Grace

Grace - Using a block from Judy Martin's Ultimate Book of Quilt Block Patterns I designed the border around it in a Judy Severson workshop. The motifs were taken from the William Morris fabrics in the quilt.
