a-to-z-for-we-and-me
Name of Maker: Mike Ellingsen
This was the 2014 TQS Block-of-the-Month - and I loved making it. It contained way more appliqué than is in my comfort zone - and the quilting took much longer than I expected - but it was a pleasure to work on throughout the entire journey.
flurry-of-feathers
Name of Maker: Karen Grover
This is a quilt I had thought about for a couple of years, but just didn't hav an inspiration.  My inspiration for the layout came from an embroirery magazine that randomly arrived in the mail.  I dyed the green and tangerine fabrics so I could achieve the gradations I wanted and then found the printed fabric to use with it that matched.  How often does that happen!  I also usded piping along each of the stems.  That was a great idea, but not easy to accomplish.  I tried several ways until I finally got the look I wanted.
silk-flowers
Name of Maker: Cindy Rainey
This wallhanging was machine embroidered on silk dupioni, then borders added.  This was quilted (all free motion) with silk thread, on a gammill longarm quilting machine.  Beading and other embellishments were added after quilting was finished.
frida-the-butterflies
Name of Maker: Cuauhtemoc Kish
"Frida & the Butterflies" is a 3-D underscoring Frida Kahlo's fragile health during her lifetime as a result of a bus accident when she was 18 or so. It represents the"body cast" that she had to wear after a series of back operations she underwent over of period of decades.

The outside represents her public personna, usually adored with costume and gayiety, but the inside represents the pain received as a result of that accident and subsequent operations (color of blood and pictorals of her husband, Diego Rivera, one of her Mexican Hairless dogs, and a skull (representing the presence of death).

I quilted on a domestic machine, and used commercial fabric and chicken wire.

boneyard-beach
Name of Maker: Peg Weschke
Boneyard Beach - Hunting Island State Park - The quilt is based on a photo I took of a large uprooted tree/turned to driftwood at Hunting Island State Park in South Carolina. The park is known for its driftwood collections. I wanted to capture the different textures of the tree bark, roots, plants and sand. At a Ricky Tims\' individual workshop retreat in La Veta, Ricky suggested using the Scribble Applique technique. You cut out your applique shapes and glue them to a background fabric. You sew them on by "scribble quilting" around the edges. This creates raw edge applique with raveled edges - outlined by the dark fabric backing that is allowed to show through. I added an extra layer of wool batting under the tree and roots and then a cotton batting for the whole quilt. Different color layers of tulle were placed over the sand and shadows to create shading effects. An interesting technique that I\'ll want to try on some other projects.?
dreams-of-the-sea
Name of Maker: Dasha Korolova
I took part in a competition "Intertop Quilt Fest". Size work 70x70cm , the main condition was to create a quilt of this size of diamonds. Diamonds on quilt sewn by hand, then the application also hands. All quilted panels on the machine - stitch creates the effect of stones and sea.

Name of Maker: Brenda S. Roach
I was asked to donate a small quilt for the 2015 International Quilt Association Silent Auction in Houston.  This is the quilt that I created.  I quilted it with 100 wt. silk thread on my APQS George sit-down machine.
tiled-trees-series-tupelo-swamp
Name of Maker: Peg weschke
This quilt was inspired by pictures I took at the Magnolia Garden Plantation Audubon Swamp.  I used Gloria Loughman's technique for tiling the background to create the back drop for the tupelo trees.  It is the first in a planned series of 3 quilts.
tiled-trees-series-skull-creek-sunset
Name of Maker: Peg weschke
This quilt is the second in my series of tiled trees. I used Laura Wasilowski hand-dyed fabric for the tiled sky, water and tree trunk and leaves.  This was inspired by a photograph I took of the sunset on Hilton Head Island's Skull Creek.  The sunset is filtered through the leaves of a large Live Oak tree.
the-lady-of-shalott
Name of Maker: Wilma Moss
This three month Block of the Month kit from Ricky Tims' studio took me a little longer to make! I guess you could say I savored the journey. His pattern and hand-dyed fabrics were used. Excellent printed and video instructions and full-sized pattern including patterns for quilting were provided. I used the quilting motifs provided in the pattern for the outer border, but used other designs for the remaining areas.
wallpaper
Name of Maker: Floyd Moss
My husband designed this quilt based on an image of some wallpaper being torn off an old wall on a TV renovation show.
He used the colors of the actual wallpaper as closely as he could. I quilted it.

homage-to-barn-raising
Name of Maker: Marion Curtis
Freely improvised wall hanging made with batik fabrics. The design was inspired by an ancient stone barn with an amazing wooden roof at a place called Denny Abbey in Cambridgeshire, England. My group, Eastern Region Textiles Forum, was asked by the manager of this English Heritage property to design and make textiles items inspired by the site.  There was a ladder tucked into the roof space so I included a ladder on the back of the quilt. One of the photographs shows it displayed in the barn.
bling-2
Name of Maker: Lorraine Ellison
This was block printed, then free machine embroidered, free machine quilted in matching Paisley patterns, beaded and wrapped around a canvas frame. It was put on the Colouricious stand at the NEC, Birmingham, UK at the 2015 Festival of Quilts to show one way of using the printing blocks
