Cold Canadians
Name of Maker: Pamela Allen
Cold Canadians - This quilt was in a special exhibition at the Patchwork Expo in Lyon France 2006. The theme "Culture of my Country" was to give the artist the opportunity to showcase her country's particular character. I wanted to avoid the obvious like Mounties and beavers, so focused on the inevitable subject of cold Canadian winters. It took centuries for European colonizers to finally believe what our native Inuit people knew all along....that is, that the parka is the ideal garment for our frigid winters. I paid homage to Inuit art by quilting in some well known symbols of their culture such as migrating cariboo, snowy owl, Canada geese and salmon. Recycled velvets and rayon were perfect fabrics for the dense trapunto-like quilting.

4 Hearts
Name of Maker: Kay Ahr
4 Hearts - The heart block was part of the local guild's 2006 block collection. My first block was too big --- aaagggrrrhhh, those quarter-inch seams! My second block fit the specifications for the block collection. So what to do with the block that was too big!?! Make 3 more!
It's mine
Name of Maker: Brenda Bailey
It's mine - I saw this quilt in a book and wanted to make it, it looked easy, it wasn't, it was thrown in the corner often! It finally took 7 years to make and hand quilt. It won visitors choice at our local show and now resides on my bed.
Red Cross
Name of Maker: webGurl
Red Cross - Changed the colorway of quilt from published version, and simplified the borders. My idea was to have colors fade away: dark red to red to pink, beige, light green, and soft yellow at the corners.. This was the first quilt I made, and it made me realize I needed to take classes to learn techniques!
Jane's Garden
Name of Maker: Wanda Nott
Jane's Garden - This started out as a small group project for a friend and then grew into a full size quilt as word spread and many who love Jane wanted to submit a block. Blocks came from FL, ME, MO, AL, GA, TN and TX. The center block was designed (fusible appliqué) to depict an iron wagon wheel gate that Jane wanted for her garden and all the blocks represent the individual maker. The idea was that Jane would know who made each block by sight, and she did.
