Yellow Butterfly Elephant
Name of Maker: Michaela Laurie
Yellow Butterfly Elephant - This quilt is constructed of 3/4 inch squares. The papers I used are from a Cavallini calendar, various scrapbook papers and a paper I created myself by scanning lace dollies. The thread is a variegated Mettler polysheen which I love to use. Once I had sewn the elephant onto watercolour paper I completed her with a pen and watercolour garden to stand in.

Shoe with Hyacyth Blossom
Name of Maker: Michaela Laurie
Shoe with Hyacyth Blossom - I create many shoe quilts in many different styles. To get around the very high thin heal I used pen and gold watercolour. I have found it looks a bit messy to sew a thin heel like this and drawing it on is the answer. I enjoy creating all sorts of different shoe bows and will often create a flower put on a piece of old jewellery to embellish the shoe.

Turkeman Crones
Name of Maker: Lea McComas
Turkeman Crones - This portrait quilt was inspired by a photo taken by the artist while traveling in eastern Turkey. These women were the elder women of their nomadic Turkeman tribe. They were as fascinated by the American travelers that stumbled upon their camp as we were by them. The motifs in the background reflect the designs used in their handmade carpets and serve as a visual connection to this particular tribe.
