Turkeman Crones - This portrait quilt was inspired by a photo taken by the artist while traveling in eastern Turkey. These women were the elder women of their nomadic Turkeman tribe. They were as fascinated by the American travelers that stumbled upon their camp as we were by them. The motifs in the background reflect the designs used in their handmade carpets and serve as a visual connection to this particular tribe.
