Tropical Colour
Name of Maker: Valerie Wilson
Tropical Colour - This quilt was made for a quilt challenge at a local shop. The batiks reminded me of the wonderful, bright plumage of macaws. We were to use the two fabrics provided (bright, multicoloured batiks), and could only add two other fabrics. This quilt is based on a photo used with the premission of Cathy Kaplan, Pittsburgh, PA
Blowing in the Wind
Name of Maker: Valerie Wilson
Blowing in the Wind - This piece focuses on the weed that everyone hates - the lowly dandelion. This quilt showcases the natural beauty of the seed heads and reminds us of when we were children, blowing on the dandelion heads to see the seeds float away on the breeze.
The Ladies
Name of Maker: Valerie Wilson
The Ladies - This piece is unique in that it evolved from a black and white photo of a garden party, taken probably in the 1920’s. What fascinated me most was all the hats worn by the women, so they became the focus of the design. Juried in to the exhibit "Edging Forward" held at Quilt Canada 2008.
Purse
Name of Maker: Valerie Wilson
Purse - This puse was made out of a wool men's jacket and the lining was made from a silk scarf, from the thrift store.
Rock Hard
Name of Maker: Valerie Wilson
Rock Hard - This piece was created for the show Geophysical held in Calgary in 2010. I saw this photo of a piece of granite from the Smithsonian Museum and was instantly smitten. It looked like a wonderful abstract painting with the veins of gold running through it and the intense earth colours. I was able to use this photo with the permission of the photographer Thad Zajdowicz of Washington, DC.

Coastal Elegance
Name of Maker: Valerie Wilson
Coastal Elegance - This arbutus tree grows beside one of the oceanside walkways in Victoria, BC. It has stood the test of time and gracefully leans out over the path. To see someone walk underneath this tree is to wonder at it's immense size.

Stash Quilt 1--Unstashing My Reds
Name of Maker: joytoquilt
Stash Quilt 1--Unstashing My Reds - I dived into my stash of reds to make this quilt. The only fabric purchased specifically for this quilt was the black and white stripe, even the back is scrappy. Of course, it only put a small dent in my stash.

Fish Nets
Name of Maker: Leslie Sorenson

Lilias del Dia
Name of Maker: soleraquilter
Lilias del Dia - I fell in love with Nancy J. Steidle's quilt featured in the AQS magazine. It took quite awhile to complete and presented a few new challenges, but I love my version just as much as I did Nancy's. I found the beadwork on the stamens to be quite therapeutic. I bought way too many beads though. May have to take up jewelry making, or really get into embellishing quilts.
