Cranes Across the Moon - Cranes fly across the moon and below are gorgeous chrysantemum blooms. To the side are log-cabin-like blocks with Asian motifs at the center. The flowers have been embellished with hot-fix rhinestones. The border was made from a fabric with a vine in it. I had to piece it together to keep the vine running around the quilt. The lower left-hand corner had a pair of cranes appliqued onto the border. This helped cover up a spot where the border was being especially difficult (LOL). I also emphasized the moon by putting a second layer of batting underneath. This wallhanging was made for my daughter-in-law for her birthday. She has had a TERRIBLE year, undergoing surgery on her cervical spine for a tumor, after months of pain and diagnostic procedures (usually more painful). She was so depleted and tired she was not her usual sunny, happy self. I felt I could help with a wallhanging that reminded her of Korea. After she got it, she called me to tell me how she loved the gift and how it reminded her of her Korean home. She sounded better (thankfully).

Fall Ferns - Fall Ferns is my concept of a fall day. The ferns and leaves were gathered ,scanned , and photo transfer onto the center block. The outer border is commercial fabric. Machine applique and free motion quilting. Hanging rod.

Attic Windows

Birthday Zinnias - I made this quilt for my friend's 50th birthday, she's not a quilter but she does like gardening. The pattern is special to me because it was featured in show 107 which I viewed as a freebie before signing up for the quilt show in series 2. The quilt is made using techniques that I had never used before so I had a lot of fun making it.

Charmed, I'm Sure - I just finished making this for my mom. She picked the fabric, and I think the pattern shows it off nicely. I'm very happy with the binding, which is two fabrics, one for the front, and the backing fabric for the back.

Karen's First Quilt - This was my first quilt- a sampler designed by Sue Anderson and made in workshops over a period of months. All hand-quilted.

Backyard Oasis

Haven't named it yet - This portrait quilt is of my husband based on a technique taught by Marilyn Belford. This quilt was made to celebrate his rich American history. His German ancestors settled in the Catawba Valley area of NC in the mid 1700's - which is where we reside today.

Twist and Shout - Entered in Hoffman challenge 2008, didn't win, but am still proud of this quilt. I learned a lot and went on to make another in a challenge that did win!

A Walk in Spring - I made this for my daughter's best friend, who went away to college.

Connor's Quilt - This racecar pattern was used, as Connor has a little brother, Hunter, of whom, I used another car design for him, as they share a bedroom. Anyways, Connor cannot sit still, and is always running around the house, hence, the reason his dad chose the racecar. Anyways, the top of both quilts have a piece of policeman fabric, as their dad is a Chicago police officer, and it seemed appropriate to include it on the quilt. The quilts are on their beds now, and both boys cuddle in them while watching TV downstairs.

Hunters Quilt - This quilt was oneof two for two brothers. Hunter is the younger by 1 year and he shares a room with his big brother, Connor. Ergo, the reason for 2 car quilts. Hunter is the one who likes to think things thru, so I chose the slower car for him. But, both cars have a piece of policeman fabric at the top, as their father is a Chicago police officer.

Princess quilt - This is a quilt that I made for my Pink Princess-mad about all things fairy - daughter. I just played around with applique, fussy cutting some prints, adding embellishments etc. to make a girly quilt. Handquilted.

Australia all over - I fell in love with this applique quilt pattern by Millamac. This designer specialises in fun pattern featuring Australian animals, and this bed spread shows animals doing Aussie things. There are even some cockatoo quilters! Fun to make, but since I opted to handquilt, it took me about 2 1/2 years from start to finish.

Bazooples baby organizer - I was asked by my daughter in law to make a wall organizer for the nursery. After many days of looking for the a pattern, I gave up and designed my own with some lovely fabric called Bazooples.

Kessley's Funky Flowers - My 13 year old granddaughter, Kessley, made this while visiting me this summer. This was her first try at applique. She loved doing the blanket stitch by hand. She chose all the colors herself and finished it in about a week.

Duck Duck Goose - Challenge quilt with a group of internet quilters. Enlarged the original pattern from throw size to queen size plus put the blocks on point. Added a scalloped border after taking a scallop class at my local quilt shop. Embellished a little from Kim Diehl's original pattern...hope she doesn't mind because this quilt took on a life of it's own.
