Grandchildren's first Quilts

I Love Purple - This is a design I did in a workshop in a suburb of Sydney. I cannot remember the name of the person who puts all these beautiful colours together, but her work is amazing.

fish pond convergence - Designed after attending Ricky Tim's Super Seminar. So much fun to slice and figure without a pattern!

Taste of Spring - This design was inspired by a picture I took last year. It features Press & Peel applique and machine quilting. This one gets a lot of attention at the shop.

Raw Edge Leaves - This was my first attempt at raw edge applique.

Yellow Stack and Whack - This quilt top was made on a retreat. We had a class on Stack and Whack with the Piedmont Quilters Guild.

Lennie - My son's yellow lab passed away in November from osteosarcoma. My daughter had taken a wonderful picture of him two years ago and I always wanted to try my hand at an art quilt. After Lennie died, I started to work on the quilt and gave it to my son for Christmas. It's my first attempt at an art quilt.

Sleeping under the Stars - I wanted a navy and orange quilt for our bedroom, and after seeing Alex Anderson's method for Lemoyne stars new I wanted to try it out. The design is not what I originally had intended, as I made the Lemoyne blocks 12" and accidentally made the friendship star blocks 9", so I had to do some revamping. It's done with a wool batting, which was a first for me and it was wonderful to work with and is very lightweight and warm.

Monkey quilt - I wanted to do a quilt with the Five LIttle Monkeys poem on it and came up with this design. It was given to my daughter's friend for her first baby. Thanks for the help from the forum here for figuring out how to do the border embroidery!

A-Symetrical Sixpence - Blocks were made in a block swap with 13 women. I spent many hours planning the design on the wall and rearranging until I was happy.

B is for Braley - The pattern contains the entire celtic alphabet.

Country Barns Around the Year - I spent many happy days in the barn on my grandparents farm in River Styx, Ohio. Fell in love with this 2003 calendar quilt from Piecemakers. It took me five years to make the quilt. The barns are well traveled, across the USA twice, Hawaii, Canadian Maritimes and many places inbetween. I batted the quilt at Bend on a picnic table. Bad move. Not flat! I used ultra suede for many of the animals and lots of silk ribbon, special threads and beads. When my daughter saw the little pink ultra suede pigs she fell in love with the quilt and asked if she could have it. Well, maybe some day.

Bountiful Blocks - Made to hang in my living room, I used a lot of red, blue and gold from an oriental print I expected to use for the border. That just didn't work so I followed the pattern as published--the oriental print appears in the label on the back.

Living in the Past - The simplicity of the old-time style quilt called out to me. I save my hand quilting for my favorite quilts and this one certainly qualified. Too bad I chose such busy prints for the large solid blocks--the feathered wreaths I hand quilted hardly show at all.

A-Round With My Friends - I challenged two quilting friends to do a round robin and this was the result. I spent 7 years on it, hand applique'd and hand quilted.

Red and White--By the Numbers - Internet BOM from Justtakes2.com. This is a tribute to the Infinite Variety exhibit in NYC, March 2011. There are 2770 pieces and 59 fabrics in this quilt.

Desert Star - Used Quilt Smart to make the Lone Star but the border design was my own.
