Granny Squares
Name of Maker: Liz Thompson
Granny Squares - I learned this idea from a friend : it is a type of "quilt-as-you-go" using 4 squares of fabric & one of batting: sewed together cleverly & then finished & quilted "Granny" squares are butted together & stitched with a bridging or similar decorative stitch. This Christmas Throw/Lap quilt is done with Christmas fabrics. Name comes from the crocheted squares granny used to make for blankets.
Hearts are Trumps
Name of Maker: NeilC
Hearts are Trumps - I originally completed this quilt as a fund raiser for the hospital that looked after me after my heart attack but the bureaucracy was so unbending that it wasn't possible to raffle the quilt to donate the money raised to the cardiac ward. As a result it now lives on the bottom of the spare bed and I've become rather fond of it not least for the rather fun quilting I did in it. I thought hearts were appropriate for a cardiac ward!
Spring in Kyoto
Name of Maker: NeilC
Spring in Kyoto - There is a Mount Fuji flowering cherry tree right next to the french windows which the table I quilt at is near and it inspired me to make this quilt last spring. Each of the blossoms are made up of 5 petals fused together on an applique mat and then en mass I sprinkled them onto the quilt top - I fused them where they fell and then stitched them in place. Although you can't see it in the photo the quilt is quilted in a traditional japanese quilt pattern.
