Celebrating Service
Name of Maker: GrammaBarbara
Celebrating Service - I wanted to make a quilt for my son-in-law to commerate his 20 year retirement from the United States Army. I saw a few similar country flag squares and patterns and decided to use a patchwork flag as the center of the theme. I wanted to note all the Army bases he was posted to and the overall design grew from there.
Applique Delight
Name of Maker: Vera Smith
Applique Delight - In a workshop on curved piecing, the pieced part of the quilt began. After getting it to the size of 20 blocks, I determined that it needed an appliqued border and found the perfect design pattern in my collection of TAS applique patterns. I gave it to my daughter for Christmas and she hangs it every Christmas in her dining room and that's where I visit it.

Christmas
Name of Maker: Nancy Branch
Christmas - Every Christmas Eve my sisters and I could hear Santa's Sleigh Bells echoing faintly through our home. We tried so hard to get back asleep so Santa wouldn't know we were awake. After I had my children my mother handed me those SAME sleigh bells – “that was YOU”, I cried! Snickering, my mother laughed and told me how she stood in the bathtub in the tile bathroom and rang those bells! They are a big part of our Christmas each year. I made the bell straps with Cherry Wood fabrics and cotton sateen for the bells with a little gold fabric paint. We sang songs all season long, so I put our favorite song on tea dyed fabric. I used sequins and beads for the center of the flowers, it reminds me of the hand work my mother and grandma did using those. As a little girl I would be memorized, just watching how the lights bounced off those sequins. I took a class from Phil Beaver at The Quilter’s Escape in Fortuna, Ca. I really enjoyed his class because he touched on design and what makes it work well. He also taught us how to paint fabric with just 3 colors. All the fabric except for the background is my fabric that I dyed in his class. I used his Poinsettia, Holly and Oil Lamp patterns. When we moved to California we did not have any electricity for 4 years so I adjusted his lamp to look like ours. We now have solar power and very grateful for it. The quilting done by April Sproule has just made this quilt sparkle and pop! She has enhanced the elements and makes the quilt so special to me and my family. My eldest daughter has already clamed this piece. I really enjoy making 3 demission quilts and have already planned a follow up quilt for my second daughter.
April's Flower
Name of Maker: Nancy Branch
April's Flower - I took a class from Art Quilter April Sproule of Sproule Studios in Fortuna, Ca. I had so much fun in this class and learned so many things. I used different threads to make leaves. It was my first time to use silk; we burned the edges and painted on each petal to give the flower some life. I used silk doupioni to make the stem. I used a skirt fabric for the swirls and net for the dragonfly. The quilting was done by April Sproule because I knew I didn’t have the skills to sew on this fabric. I just love how the quilting and thread she chose has enhanced this piece. It looks like a fine picture and I am keeping this for myself to enjoy. I’m not intimidated by silk as I use to be. I really enjoyed her class and learned so much.
Hello Kitty
Name of Maker: Ashley Holbrook
Hello Kitty - I found a free hello kitty cross stitch pattern on the internet and converted it into this quilt. All the blocks are 1 inch by 1 inch but if there was 3 blocks of same color in a row i did cut them longer. I made this quilt when i was 18 years old. This is the first quilt i have ever made and i love how it turned out. Debby Cramer of sergeant bluff quilted this quilt for me.

Sorbet Surprise
Name of Maker: Shawn Bailey
Sorbet Surprise - Two traditional blocks in EQ6 make up this pattern. Our local quilt shop was looking for a different class and I came up with this table topper - great for practicing 1/2 square triangles and accurate cutting as the cornerstones are only 5"!
Trapunto Pansies
Name of Maker: Shawn Bailey
Trapunto Pansies - I joined our Guilds sub-group call Fibre Speak and was inspired to try mixing acrylic paint and fabric. I did trapunto work for the pansies with a 1/2" grid behind them and what I call "fantasy feathers" in the border. After blocking of the grid-work and pansies I rolled white acrylic paint onto the feathers. The pansies are painted with water soluble pencil crayons. Lots of fun to do!
