My Sister Emily 1
Name of Maker: Li Hertzi
My Sister Emily 1 - This is a thread painting of my sister who stood in the light and simply glowed! I did it last week and am not happy with the teeth or the eyes so I am going to do another, but I thought I might solicit your advice, Yes?
Me Moving
Name of Maker: Li Hertzi
Me Moving - I am writing a class on drawing the figure and I came across an artical about Constable who mostly drew nature and most passionately, water. He talks about life being movement, how when painting the ocean, each wave and trough is a memory - the shifting form of it making the artist REMEMBER the shapes. Now we have cameras to remember, but still, we, as artists, need to revel in our visual memory. So I took a movie (you gotta love the Macintosh with the built-in movie player) and tried to draw the movement as I swung my hair around. As you can imagine, this was pretty weird! This is what I got, and I stitched it... Do you get the feeling of moving?
Stack 'n Spin
Name of Maker: Balumen
Stack 'n Spin - This quilt was made from a pattern provided at a one-day quilting retreat with Klaudine Hansen (famous quilter and quilt judge) in November 2007. The quilt was completed in 2008 and long-arm quilted by C. Hasse. The large print in the border was the fabric used for the Stack 'n Spin blocks. It was my first attempt at this and it was great fun!!

100 Deseos para todos (100 Wishes to all)
Name of Maker: Angelines Artero Pardo
100 Deseos para todos (100 Wishes to all) - Butterflies in the forest of trees inspired me when monarch butterflies all together to procreate. The fence around the limitations that mean we are not able to get us to the desires that exist. Water is the road to freedom so you can get, and in many cultures water is purified and takes all the negatives you see in our lifetime. Water is a nod to reality, we know that there are fish in the water but not see, and padding I've created are just fish that if we rotate the piece by the setback is the bottom of the lake. There are 13 different quilts to show that I am not superstitious and I do not preclude a desire to achieve superstition.
The Monarch
Name of Maker: Potenza
The Monarch - I created this quilt from a video with Alex and Ricky.
The Birdbrain Exchange
Name of Maker: Marilyn Knepp
The Birdbrain Exchange - My long-time friend Bill is a fine carpenter who makes extraordinarily decorative birdhouses. We bartered a quilt for a birdhouse. The birdboxes quilt pattern was a natural choice, and its name captures both the trade and the joy of old friends. I modified the pattern to use round doors rather than the pattern's squares. It is heavily quilted with a different filler pattern for each box.

Cards Anyone? - My folks love to play cards and roll dice, and I love what my sister and I refer to as "babe" fabrics. This quilt was made for my folks from a babe fabric I loved.
A Penguin For All Seasons
Name of Maker: Anne Jackson
A Penguin For All Seasons - Quilt Challenge entry for MN Quilt Show, Duluth, MN, 2005. The theme for the quilt had to relate to the City of Duluth, so I changed the penguins to be summer creatures involved in a variety of pasttimes - beach bum, farmer, Uncle Sam, volleyball player, one very sunburned bird, Tarzan and one female penguin with curls and a bikini. Won ribbons for Viewer's Choice and Best Use of Challenge Fabrics. I agreed to sell the quilt before winning the awards - it was given as a housewarming gift to someone who moved to north FL from Minneapolis.

Whirling Colors
Name of Maker: judynewquilter
Whirling Colors - Based on Opening quilt on Simply quilts show. It was possible for me to do this quilt because I found Nuances at Sew Batik (a gradation of colors) I used 13 different colors and did not have to look for seven different fabrics for each color. It took over a year to do. I spent a lot of time working on the grid to show placement of each color and keep track of the individual triangles. No two tirangles were the same.
