Learning-As-I-Go This is a lone star baby quilt, with a pieced checkerboard/woven background behind the star. This quilt was a gift to a friend, for her newly adopted baby girl; the basketweave background is symbolic of the birth mother and the adoptive mother, woven together through this precious little girl. The Lone Star was chosen because of ties to Texas, and the ribbon fabric and theme in the quilting symbolize the baby's name, Jubilee. This quilt was meant to scream "celebration!" as loud as the baby's name does; I think it worked! I hope. 

The star was strip pieced and then cross cut and assembled, the background was pieced in the traditional method, and because of the pieced background there was no way to do this without the traditional Y seams, so the quilt was assembled as half-stars (the 4 star points joined), then the background pieces inset between the diamonds, then the outside ribbon fabric added, and finally the 2 halves joined together across the middle. 

This was my first time making a Lone Star, and my first time doing anything with Y seams, at all. 

Quilting was done with my walking foot, including the bow detail in the outside corners.
