Feeling Groovy

Feeling Groovy - This quilt is a study in opposites. At first glance the theme is apparent in the contrast of the bright multicolored batik flowers floatinf on the black and white background. Looking deeper, the fabrics that make up the black and white squares are mostly printed with circular shapes. Graphic straight line crosshatching contrasts with my original quilting design of swirling motifs and gentle arcs of the flower veins. Trapunto, embroidered button flower centers and hot fix crystals create dimension to bring the eye out and the green hoops create movement to draw the viewer’s focus back in. My inspiration comes from the late 60’s graphic style, like the scene transitions in the movies of that era. A modern interpretation of retro 60’s graphic art rendered in fabric.
