Flowers for Mary Ellen and Eileen

Flowers for Mary Ellen and Eileen - I needed a simple project to work on that I could pick up at any time, sew at any time, etc. So I started making half square triangle blocks in my Mom's favorite colors - peaches, oranges and a little pink. After putting a bunch of blocks together, I assembled this quilt thinking that my Mom could use a good lap quilt for cold days in Minnesota. I had almost as much fun assembling the back - for which I found a material that looked almost exactly like the drapes that hung in my Grandmother's (my Mom's Mom) dining room. Not only did it match her drapes, but it also contained geraniums (one of her favorite flowers). I also found a maroon and green polka-dot fabric that I would have NEVER picked out for my stash, but seemed to be made for this quilt - it became the border on the back and the binding! So without the original intent, this quilt contains the favorite flower colors that my Mom and Grandma loved. What a perfect combination!

Love this simple quilt. It looks like a log cabin from a distance but with WAY fewer stitches ! Great job!
