I'm with you on this forum business! I have my Kaffe Brassica fabrics. But need to get my solids. I haven't started sewing on them yet.

Good afternoon. I am new to the forum but have picked out fabrics for the Mystery Quilt and plan to get started. I don't see any of the pictures posted. Can you tell me what I need to do differently? Thank you.
Patti

Jenn, the Flock block is a 4 patch. If you were going to make it in 9 inch size, then each of the larger half square triangles would finish at 4-1/2 inches. To make those, you could cut 5-1/2 inch squares, make the half square triangle, and trim it down to 5 inches.

When you get to the smaller triangle squares, they would finish at 2-1/4 inches. So you would cut 3-1/4 inch squares, make the half square triangle, and trim down to 2-3/4 inches.

The reason the 6 inch block works for many blocks is that is is a multiple of 2 and of 3, so it's easier to make 4 patch and 9 patch blocks. The 9 inch size block is doable in this block pattern, but as you can see, figuring the numbers gets a little messy. You might want to pick some other 9 patch blocks if you want to stick with 9 inch finished blocks.

Happy Quilting,
Kathy

9" blocks are fine, you just substitute as you like. You are correct, there may not be a lot of 9" blockls vs. 6" or 8" or 12". But it's your quilt, you can do what you like. There are 1000's of blocks on the internet, many free, that you can find more should you want more.

OR you could make some 8" blocks too and add a 1/2" border around those to make them 9"--that works too.

Barbara, I decided to make my mystery using 9 inch blocks. However, the Flock block for today does not give cutting instructions for this block in the 9" size. My plan is to just substitute this block with another that has a 9" block size. My question is whether I'm creating a problem for myself by going to the 9 " size - not enough blocks in the book to substitute 9 " blocks. I just got the book two weeks ago. Thanks so much!

You can make as many as you like, no set number. Alex says "it's a Mystery to me" because she is designing as she goes.

Please put future questions on this Topic, where everyone working on the Mystery will see it:
