Thanks Margo. Did you allow any extra on the width of the Graph paper or did you just do a total of 7" from top to bottom?

I did a little extra to be sure that I could trim the edges easily. I also used wider strips at each end for the same reason.

Janie, I taped graph paper together to paper-piece the units in pairs, and after they were sewn and the paper removed, I cut them into the correct width.

When I mix my starch, I use half Sta-Flo and half water in a spray bottle.

Hi Margo, I am preparing the graph paper for the middle segment of these strips. Once the paper is marked accoding to your directions, do I cut them in half to make the 3 1/2" strips? Or do I sew the piceces the entire length and cut them in half after they are sewn? Which makes better sense? In addition, I know you said somwhere how you dilute the Sta Flo starch, but can you give it again?

I have been out of touch for the last month, because of other committments including making the transition back to KY for the summer. We passed right through Cleveland, TN on the trip north! The next 4 days will be spent at a quilt retreat with my local guild, and the plan is to work on the BOM, so I need to get everything prepared before I leave. Thanks for your kind assistance.

Don't worry. I plan to get back on this horse when the holiday is over. It is just discouraging to be behind at the end of only month THREE.

I do have a good excuse, tho. One of my partners entered hospice and I quick finished a quilt I had in progress for someone else and quilted it and got it to him. Then another partner (to whom the quilt was to have gone originally) went downhill and is scheduled to start chemotherapy, and now I am madly trying to find the right neutral and backing for that. Luckily, it is a very fast pattern (using the strip-tube ruler) so I know it will go fast as soon as I find the darn right light batik. I never seem to get around to making quilts for myself, and I do really want this BOM!

Beth, you and I need to move on to complete the month (I am struggling to keep up). We get much encouragement from this group of quilters.
I hope to have enough fabric; but if not I can buy more.....do not be so hard on yourself. :P

And the instructions did say, "width of fabric," which I took to mean selvage to selvage, rather than 44" along the selvage. So nothing to beat yourself up about, Beth - we just followed instructions. :)

Dang Beth, be nice to yourself! We all make mistakes and I don't think this is a big one. I figured if I screw up, I can always get more fabric.

Yep! It's just fabric!!

Beth, with a project this big, we are all likely to have a few hiccups along the way! Don't sweat the inevitable mistakes...just keep on truckin'. Margo will keep us out of any REAL trouble! :D

When I cut my strips, I cut all 24 (12 of each color) parallel to the selvage. That used up about 18 inches or so of the width of the fabric, but left a big chunk of each color intact. If you cut your strips from selvage to selvage I imagine there could be a lot of leftover fabric in strips.

Earlier we figured out that the folks who ended up with strips left over at the end had cut their strips selvage to selvage, instead of cutting 18 inch strips parallel to the selvage. See earlier posts in month 2. Hope this helps!
