Introducing the 2013 TQS Block of the Month designed by Sue Nickels and Pat Holly! It's called "TWO OF US" and was created by the two of them. The quilt measures 79" x 79" and was completed just in time for Houston.

TOPIC: Kit

Re: Kit 14 Jan 2013 12:07 #95252

Thank you for keeping us posted! I ordered my kit at about the time that John must have stopped sending them - it still shows as a pending order - and hadn't heard anything from Jeannie about a planned ship date. Now that I know what's going on, I totally understand - feel better soon, Jeannie! (I hate the flu)

It will be sent to the original address - hopefully it will all be resolved by the end of the month - so I think you will be just fine - I will certainly keep everyone posted

Re: Kit 12 Jan 2013 11:14 #95147

Alex, will the additional fabric automatically be sent to the address that the kit was sent to? The reason I ask is because I had the kit sent to a address different than my home address. As long as the additional fabric is sent out within the next two months (and I assume it will be), I will need it to be sent to the same address as the kit. Otherwise, it might sit out in the snow for awhile. :-)

And Jeannie, so hope you are on the mend. This flu in all it's various varieties has been intense this year.

When we realized there was a fabric situation John stopped all shipments until we figured it out what was going on. It took a few days to wrap several brains around it (with the help of an excellent pattern writer). Keep in mind that I flunked math and it almost broke my brain in two- LOL. At that point we instructed Jeannie to cut the new kits with enough fabric to paper piece (interestingly the number isn't that far different) and ship. Then she got sick.......when those kits get full filled we will go back and send fabric to the folks before John called the stop date. It too will include a bit more for PP. I need to go sew................ :D

Thanks so much for the update on the kits. This flu is really nasty - feel better and get well soon Jeannie . I was hoping to get my kit a few weeks ago but totally understand. When it is mailed out is it possible to include to supplementary fabric as I plan to paperpiece as much as possible? I am new to the quilt show and very much appreciate Margo's insight and helpful hints. I continue to learn from everyone's comments. Thanks from snowy vermont. Judy.

That's great news. Will I be able to purchase enough to do the entire first month? Thank you so much for responding to me, Pam

If we bought the kit, will we automatically be sent extra fabric, or do we need to make a request?

Hi Pam, sorry to hear that you are not having a good time with the new BOM. Have you looked at the most recent TQS newsletter and Margo's paper piecing method? And there are several threads on this forum about the BOM. Here's one about the paper piecing method. I hope it helps. Don't give up yet - give it another try. :D

Thank you so much for your encouragement. The problem is I have already cut and sewn single units. I love paper piecing so hopefully I will be able to secure all the fabric I need.
Thanks again, you're a doll! Pam

Pam, I first pieced a unit following the instructions and made 2 units with that technique. When I decided to try paper piecing, I unsewed the rest of my strips and came up with the "minimal" templates demonstrated in the video titled "Add A Quarter" and I was able to use those strips. If you have already cut the smaller units, make a template and see if some of it isn't salvageable. You just need to be very aware of how to position your fabrics on the paper foundations so you are sure to get full coverage. It will work!

We are very aware that there are fabric issues and we will be sending out supplementary fabric - including enough for those who prefer paper piecing. The status with that is Jeannie - who is our right hand gal regarding the BOM - she is out with that awful flu. Her Dr. said to expect her to return mid week (next week). As for the method that Pat and Sue use - it is their preferred piecing technique. Thanks to Margo for giving us an alternative for those who prefer paper piecing. One of the many things I LOVE about quilting is that there are various ways to achieve the same results. please take advantage of the videos Margo has prepared for us.

I had already cut and pieced some of the sections when they posted the comment about paper piecing. I had presumed when I ordered the kit these were paper pieced. I am bored to death sticking pins in my holes, not happy with all my results and would like to sell the rest of the kit. I am so disappointed that there is no one to contact. Any offers? Pam
