Margo, I have one question from your paper piecing video. When you cut your 3 inch strips, did you start with an angle like the instructions had said for doing it the template way? I guess I am confused because of the "straight of grain" on the template. I am a pretty new sewer. I am so disgusted with what I have done with the templates that I want to throw everything out and start over using paper piecing. I sure hope I can buy more fabric!
Thanks for your videos and your help, Pam
Pam, I cut my strips 3" x WOF (width of fabric) straight across the width. That way the straight of grain arrow (on the wide base end of the triangle) is on the straight-of-grain of the fabric.
If you follow the original BOM instructions, your strips are cut on the bias to start with, but when the templates are cut out (as per the directions) the grain line of the wide end of the triangle is cut with the straight-of-grain of the fabric.
I don't think it really matters if it's length-wise or cross-wise, as long as the wide base end of the triangles are stable, and not cut on a bias.
