I also visited Hawaii last year. It was my first time there and I look forward to going back. My photos of the fabulous quilt shop that I found there and where I left a large chunk of change, are posted on TQS' Show & Tell under "World Quilt Shop Tour". Anyway, while there, I did learn from some Hawaiian quilters that they use a slightly thinner quilter's cotton fabric called "Fiesta Cotton" for their appliqued quilts. The thinner cotton is much easier to needleturn than "Kona Cotton". So, of course, I had to buy some of it. Unfortunately, I wasn't in Hawaii long enough to schedule a quilting class.

Regarding Amish quilts, I spent an entire day in Lancaster, PA and could have enjoyed staying all week. I highly recommend a trip there to anyone who admires Amish quilting.

I just recently finished listening to "The Aloha Quilt" recorded book by Jennifer Chiaverini and it had many interesting things about Hawaiian quilts and quilting.

I have one of Nancy Chong's videos on how to make a Hawaiian quilt, which is inspiring. This is on my to do list. I have a pattern picked out, the plan of the quilt, the color scheme! Now I just need the time to do that. I, too would love to see an episode on Hawaiian quilting. Kathy

I second the motion on info on Hawaiian quilts/quilt blocks!! It might be a while before I'd get to making it, but it's on my list!

I would be willing to volunteer and be the roving reporter for the Hawaiian quilt segment. Its a bit of a boat ride from FL, but I think I would get there eventually. Sandi

Me too! Also, would Alex and Ricky mind taking a road (boat/plane) trip to Hawaii? I'm also fascinated by Hawaiian quilts.

I too would love to see TQS take us on a Amish Country Quilt tour.

Amish quilts are also a favorite of mine. I have visited Lancaster, PA every year for the last 8 years. I enjoy the people and the inspiration. I feel like I come home with a renewed outlook on life. And the quilts that evolve from those trips remind you of those feelings.

Good idea! I love all of Rachel Pelman's work...maybe she and her books could tell the story.
