Rosemary, I do seem to remember some kind of hair trimmer that looked alittle like this.

That was years ago! I still think I may order a few. I can put them in my daughters' Christmas stockings. I'm always looking for some little thing to stick in there. I used this at a friends house and it did work for the thread trimming. I don't think it would work too well for general sewing tasks. I always keep my scissors handy at the machine when sewing clothing.
