TOPIC: Design Wall with batting or not?

So what is the first project up on your new design wall? Did you take photos? Expect to see great projects coming off that wall.

I got some T-pins from Joann's and used those to pin my felt in place. That was 8 years ago, and it's still holding strong. If I ever decide to change the color, it comes off easily.

BTW, the advantage of felt is that it comes really wide and covers the entire 4' x 8' insulation board easily.

AND ... for all of you who don't want to splurge on a design wall like this, I used my design wall during my kids' high school graduation parties as a photo wall. I just used (more) T-pins to place and hold the photos on top of my felt. It didn't wreck the design wall one bit, and it really let us display ALL those photos!

So, if you don't want to spend this money on yourself, DO IT FOR THE KIDS!!

It is up and spray glued into place.....But I know I can put other pieces up to be less permanent by just pinning them and use your idea Lorchen...thanks

Karen, if you don't fix the batting/flannel permanently, you could keep more than one sheet of the clingy stuff. Then, if you are halfway through one project, but need to start something else, you can just take it down, and fold it up. All the pieces will continue to cling to the batting/flanning.

I am not sure why you would want the extra layer. You can use just a layer of cotton batting as your blocks will cling to it just like it will to the flannel. Using both sounds like extra expense to me. I would pick one or the other.

I have just put up a 7 foot by 7 foot foam insulation board in my studio...my question is whether I should put a thin layer of batting underneath the flannel? Will that make it sort of "bouncy" or not? The board is nailed down so this is definitely permanent and I plan to spray baste the batting if used and the flannel also....any problems with this sort of application? :? :? :?:
