TOPIC: Fiskars Rotary cutter and ruler in one

03 Oct 2009 17:43 #38971

Bought mine at Walmart, when they were closing out the fabric dept. it's ashame to get something like that at a deal cuz' someone thought it'd be better to get rid of it... I use it mainly when I lead sewing workshops at work. It usually makes it easier for the novices to cut their fabric without too much fuss.

I bought one too while I was in the USA. I couldn't find it in a store but bought it online. Do a search for it to find the best price. I think I finally bought mine at Sewforless. Be careful not to get the papercutter. On this model the rotary cutter will not slip off the end. I find it especially useful to cut consistent strips. Practice a bit first to make sure that you get the feel for it and where to place the ruler to begin the strip and the correct pressure to cut the fabric evenly. I find that there is much less slippage of the fabric that causes the cut to go off line.

I bought a contraption at the quilt expo last year made by fiskar. you place your fabric under the blade holder, line it up with preset markings and slide the cutting blade to cut the fabric into whatever size strip you want. It works very well for doing the jellyroll strips and I've used it to cut 5 inch strips to subcut into charm squares. I got it at the Nancy's Notions booth. My friend also got one and she uses it too. You might try a fiskar website or maybe the Nancy's Notions website. Hope this is what you are asking about. Gloria

Rotary cutter and ruler in one 02 Oct 2009 20:06 #38940

I have a six and one half inch wide ruler that had a rotary cutter attached. I like the wider ruler but found the rotary cutter to be awkward and then it came off the end of the ruler. I have not been able to get it back on so that it works right. Maybe it is just because I am technologically challenged but now I use the ruler with my old rotary cutter and am much happier. (I bought mine at a Walmart in Alamo, Texas
not exactly the most progressive "quilt store" around)

Ann, who tomorrow will begin her return to her southern Texas home via Houston and IQF and all the fun.

I've never heard about this, or seen it, Della. Let's hope somebody can point you in the right direction. We've got to keep Gloria quilting! :)

Fiskars Rotary cutter and ruler in one 02 Oct 2009 02:09 #38920

My Mum saw a video of one of these contraptions, and is very keen to get one as cutting is a bit of a problem for her. I googled it and apart from a review can't find a supplier. Does anyone know if it is still made, and if so, where I can get one online?

If anyone's not sure what I'm talking about, it's a bit like a paper cutter. The rotary blade housing is attached to the ruler and you push down and slide it.

Many thanks,
Mandella
